My hands are bad for that too .. I think it's all the coffee and cigarettes. Could be having kids gives you the shakes. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of night screaming in a cold sweat thinking of how hard it is to get a decent smooth line outta my stylus pen.
I think my advice (this is a technique that I'm perfecting) is just to zoom and cleanup everything. Sorta like the refinement stages of Dhab's fab tutorial. I think comparing your own work to Dhab's is pretty harsh on yourself. A: He has alot of practice and has acquired quite an advanced degree of skill (hehehe ya you know we all love you Dhab) and B: He prolly puts alot of attention to little details like the way edges look and jaggey little booshticks.

Well I can't give you a sure fire way of drawing straight lines. I'm still having problems with them myself but I can tell you what they tought me when I was still studying architecture. The way to draw straight lines on paper in a building sketch is to hold your pen lightly in your hand. Don't grip it in some sort of death grip. Lift your hand from the drawing surface and just make a fast motion with your hand. The trick here is the fast motion and the fact that your hand is not on the drawing surface. If your hand is on the drawing surface it will almost by itself create a line that's slightly curvy which you don't want. Of course your line will be to long and it'll stick out at the ends but that's always better then having to clean up every 'straight' line you would draw otherwise.
Ravian (Hope this makes sense.

Why is it that you always find one obvious spelling error just after you've posted your comment?
Of course tought should have been taught.

My tip is:
Relax, don't squeeze the brush/pen, and focus...
(focus on the force, Luke)

I started out with a "wobbly" hand, and i never could draw perfect circles <you don't actually need to do either in photoshop, the program does this> but anyway, for my hand drawings, what i did was draw straight lines on paper for hours on end, not a 6 inch line, but about 2 feet, line after line after line, after line after line, eventually your hand will get the feel for it and you won't have the problem anymore. It just takes a lonnng time for some people, though,. same process for circles if anyone has that problem. |

ONe thing that helps is drawing with the arm rather than the wrist. don't set your wrist down, hold you arm of the paper, or tablet or whatever. the concentrate on the movement of the shoulder and elbow. Also, it helps to do a sketchy, perhaps wobbly version of the important lines for the drawing, the trace over them with continuous ones.
hope that helps |
