okay I got offered a graphics designing job here in my home town which is not a big city so there are few if not no graphic jobs... well anyways they want to hire me because I can do graphics, but they don't know how much they're going to pay me... how much should I say I'll go for?
I was the graphics designer for both my high school yearbook and newspaper, photographer, cartton editor and editorial cartoonist, and this year I'm taking a class on commmerical art. Hell I don't know all the programs I can work with, but I can do Adobe photoshop, light wave, rhino, and tons more. I want to know about how much I should go in asking for... okay I'm not near as good as a ton of you, but I'm still in high school.

So if anyone can answer me it would help out a lot.

Jabberwocky, I think you should post this in the main forum so it gets more attention. Give it an eye-grabbing title, something like MONEY, MONEY, MONEY (hee, hee). Getting paid properly is very *art related* as far as I'm concerned, and it would be interesting to see what people say. I'd like to know a bit more about this, too.

Make sure you get a 401k. Seriously, it depends on what you'll be doing. You might want to try and freelance first for anywhere between $15 & $20 an hour.

Freelance? I plan on heading to college next year. I might be able to pull some friends into something like that later some other city, but after I get out of college. I'm just doing graphics for them. They need a graphics designer because their web page designer can't do "great" graphics fast. I don't know hours or what not... my commercial art teacher told me around $9-$10 an hour because of where I live. Not a big computer area I guess.

What the Hell is bothering me?

9/10 an hour? That is walmart pay...if they are a good stable business I would ask for at least 12-15/hr

It takes time to make web graphics...so that is what i say..but i would ask this in the digital art forum...they probably would know more then me

for freelance web graphics i usually charge around $25US/hr. depends a bit on the client tho. for print graphics, especially things like illustration, i charge beween $30-40US/hr. depends a bit on your geographical location, and who you're working for. if this is a real company, with a board of directors and such, you should be asking for corporate rates. if this is a small start-up run by a friend or friend of a friend, you'll have to settle for less i'm sure. regardless, make sure you get it in writing.
