Hey,

I feel a need to listen to something new.
I'm looking for something jazzy or blues like. Basically just a singing woman with a pretty voice. Mostly just very slow too.
Can anyone point me to something?

Yes I can

I'm in to jazz in massive way!

While looking for songs with my favourtie bassist 'Jaco Pastorius' playing in them.
I stumbled upon 'Joni Mitchell'!

I've only got three songs but they keep me smiling

Look for:

Hejira
God must be a boogie man
The dry Cleaner from Des Monies

Hmm.. i'm not a jazz fan, and i'm not sure how many of those are considered jazz, but here are a few that i like:

I Gres - Restless (brums, bass, trumpet)
Bernard Herrmann - Taxi Driver Theme (trumpet all the way)
Claes Wikdahl - Early summer (guitar)
Dave Brubeck Quintet - Take five (sic jazz)

"Bodily Functions" by Matthew Herbert.

Its glitchy electronic jazz with gorgeous female vocals.

Here's a link to buy it at CDNow, but it hasn't got samples.

Thank you all very much. I will see what I can find. There is a huge cd library down the street that has pretty much everything. So I'll see if I can find some stuff there.

i'd go for Stacey Kent, Lisa Ekhdal... or Cassandra Wilson if you like deeper voices.

portishead .. kind of bitter-sweet, and it's trip-hop.

Hehe, I know who Claes Wikdahl is! I haven't seen him in a year or so, but I met him when I was working with Headhunter (dreamcast). I was really suprised to see his name here. I found this on his homepage, you can download the song (and other) there.

I would like to recommend Billie Holiday.

Silje Nergaard. She's Norwegian and sings these gorgeous jazz covers. I think she matches your description perfectly.
