has anyone seen the old movie 'the time machine' by H.G Wells, i remember a part where he goes to the year 2000 and there are all these people walking around with silver uniforms and hard hats, and flying cars and stuff, mad me laugh last time i saw it.

I cant really say what i think the future will be like, all i can say is i hope its a peacefull one, but if we look at the trend since the beggining of man, it's doubtfull, as long as humans are alive we will continue to destroy this earth. the odds are not in our favor! i think we as humans under estimate ourselves, and our only threat to our survival is ourselves, unless we think as one instead of being divided by race and religion.

but its all part of evolution, right!

Considering the fact most greenies don't take the title as an insult, I will give you the benefit of the doubt.

Sorry.

Everyone will be implanted with a chip the size of a rice grain that will not only make instant payment of say, bus tickets, karate lessons, groceries etc. possible, but will also monitor your health and can call for help in case of an emergency. Although the uses are apparent, ultra-privatized hospitals will not take in people without money, since they can immediately check the bank account of a person in life danger. This will have the same effect on police, and though the chips can be used to stun, incapacitate or eliminate the carriers, such uses will only be applied in the case of demonstrations or similar gatherings, not in knifings or fights etc between citizens because of limited resources and corruption.

It will be illegal not to carry one, and persons found without one are considered terrorists to be executed on sight. Industries will use such second-class citizens for more centralized, huge sweatshops, in where the people will eat, sleep and work. This is made possible by corruption, and the fact that the owners of these industries are the ones controlling the police and other institutions that are watching people.

Marketing and television entertainment will wipe out "marginal" movies, books and tv series when the world slowly becomes an ever smaller village. Entertainment corporations will bribe the global governments into making smaller or home-made movies, comics, writings etc. illegal in their pursuit for the ideal, optimized market.

Who would want to burn books when nobody reads them ? The massive mainstream will slowly erode all cultures into one homogenous mass. Using the mimimum factor to decide for the mass entertainment will result in a sharp decline of average intellect, and a culture where the porn of today would be seen as incomprehensibly refined art.

It will be illegal not to carry weapons for people of all ages, and to gather in a group of more than three people, because of the ever-present terrorist threat. Children will bear arms to school to be safe from shootings.

Genetically engineered, "completely synthetical" humans will be regarded as robots, and used for medical experiments, heavy labour, entertainment and nourishment. For the upper class, it will be possible to purchase a wife programmed to fall in love with the buyer. Fashion industries will breed autistic models, the military perfect soldiers.

Eugenics will make a comeback in schools - above or below the set standards for intellect, physical stamina or skin colour when applying to school, a young schoolchild will be revoked of his or her citizenship and either sent to the sweatshops or government "conditioning" programs in secret.

Although the level of technology will be far superior to today, the resources will be much more limited. Destroyed environment and limited nourishment will lead to a more limited food chain - from modified single cell beings to humans to single cell beings. Foods like cancer cell protein clumps, yeast bars, plankton dishes etc. will be the only options for the majority of the world population - the future dish will be cold snot that might vary slightly in color.

People will be happy with their lives, generally because of their mental conditioning and lack of knowledge for anything better. " Enjoying the small things in life " is the motto of the citizen of the future.

All children will have a chip implanted into them somewhere that tracks their location. That way, if the child is kidnapped, the authorities will be able to find them. Kidnappings will become much more violent, and children will be hurt more often when the kidnappers start ripping open their bodies in search of the hidden chip. The rate of child murder will greatly increase, though laws will stay the same, and it will still be counted as manslaughter, longest prison term being 25 years.

The American government will meet its downfall. The world will be thrown into a great economic depression. World resourses will have been used up. Global warming will increase beyond the point of prevention. Nuclear war will send people underground for generations. World War III will end eventually. Someone might remember the initial target of the "war on terrorism" was one man. People will recognize Bush for what he really is.

Well, quite honestly, none of us know what will happen. I believe it is impossible to predict the future. The opinions here are really interesting though, sometimes scary, even.

If I were to give my own predictions, they would also probably be on the 'scary' side rather than the hopeful one. I like to think positively but how our world is currently evolving doesn't leave me very optimistic about our future.

Minefield's right: While the good becomes better, the bad can just as easily become worse.

Hey you guys!!! You should all read this. This is a technology timeline written by some guy or company. The have done research and this is what they came up with. Actually, some of it sounds a bit wierd but most of it seems likely. And there are some really cool ideas in here as well. Read it now. (You need Acrobat Reader)

Our human race, Earth's fifth, will end before 2013. There is a planet 6x bigger than Jupiter that comes very close to Earth every so-many years. It's magnetic force tilts Earth until the Poles become the Equators and the Equators become the poles. The polar ice-caps melt rapidly and cause a gargantuan flood, and normal-land masses that sat in the center of the earth freeze. Before the flood, the magnetic interference of the giant planet causes dormant-volcanos to errupt, unheard of diseases, enormous earthquakes and even more bizzarre weather than we've been having recently. The only way to survive? It's an Estoeric, secret matter that can't be revealed quickly or openly.

The corrupted power behind U.S. and many other governments is attempting to gain final control over the world population to attempt to stop any survivors from starting the next human race. The terrorist attacks have been contrived by the CIA and there are more coming to attempt to strip us of our rights completely and create a microchip controlled population in the name of 'National Security.' They are attempting and will succeed with naming anyone they wish a 'Terrorist' and discarding them. If your Grandma smokes weed for her arthritis, she's obviously funding the Taliban and deserves to die. Don't agree? Then you're a Terrorist.

But, in the end, the evil powers that have controlled the world for so long will be defeated by the giant planet, Hercolubus, and they will suffer somethin' awful. After the planet has passed and the symptoms subsided, the survivors will return and start the next race.

It's time to say farewell to your worldly attatchments, or you won't get the chance when they're torn from you.
