I saw quite a few really good movies recently and my head is swarming with ideas. Just wanted to share the grand movies that killed an inspirational/motivational mind block.

1. Event Horizon
2. The Patriot
3. Gladiator
4. Vertigo
5. The Birds

I am working on an "event horizon" wallpaper right now, and I plan to make a sweet "The Birds" wallpaper as well. Then if I get to it, I am also going to create a gladiator drawing, or the 3d model of the collisium(sp).

Dude, definetly tell me when you have that event horizon done! I love that movie and I got the soundtrack and that is sweet as hell, especially track 2.

That movie is some scary shit at times

I also find a lot of movies that are visually inspirational. Such as:

-Akira Kurosawa's Yume Dreams
-Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai
-2001: A Space Odyssey (sp?)
-Ghost in the Machine
-Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
-Delicatessen
-City of Lost Children
-Se7en

Anyone else find these stimulating?

Fear and loathing in las vegas... *drool* my favourite movie. Love that flick. Seven is also very good despite the fact they totally fucked up the ending scene.

Im actually working on some drawings of specific scenes from this movie.

If anyone can guess which movie im talking about, with this tiny scap of info, you've got my upmost respect

Incarnatation: Is it "What Dreams May Come"? The movie isn't that great, but its very visual.

I myself can find inspiration in almost any movie.

hehe. . . My colleseum won't be as detailed. The Event Horizon wallpaper will have the core in a surrealistic background. It will look like the walls are bleeding. I can't wait to finish. Whats on the soundtrack?

nope sorry chapel.

Although its just my opinion i think if you look closley at the movie im talking about there is so much design and thought put into every frame. Despite this i dont think there is any special effects in the movie. It isnt an obvious beauty like bladerunner, but more subtle, thats why some people might be surprised when they find out what im talking about.

Someone said fear and loathing in Las vegas, which is actually connected to the movie im talking of.

City of Lost Children is a BEAUTIFUL movie. The sets are dark and magnificent!! Not to mention the characters..I personally enjoyed the deap sea scavenger and the circus flea!
I need to get ahold of that movie on DVD!!
If you haven't seen it, you're missing out in a MAJOR way

Incarnatation, I like puzzles, especially to do with movies...
You might be talking about Gilliams' 12 Monkeys which is very visual. Brazil it can't be, because you said that special effects don't play a large part...
Or maybe the connection is through Brad Pitt, and thus Se7en or Fight Club. Fight Club is the single most visually-impressive movie ever. But it has special effects. Seven is also visually stunning, but it's been mentioned already...
And that's all the guesswork I'm gonna do for now. I could go on for ever with connections, but I need more info to pinpoint the movie.

Grats to Count Zero he got it in 1

yus 12 monkeys is what i was talking about. This movies beauty is very subtle and brought through by lighting and set design, and not over the top special effect extravaganzas(sp?).

Infact im so obsessed with this movie that im actualy working on a small movie based around a specific section of the film, about 1 minute long, 100% 2d animation.

But before that if your intrested im gonna post drawings from specific scenes in my favourite movies, including 12 monkeys, Zulu and bladerunner.

btw i am the same incarnation, had to re register :P

Incarnation,

Have you seen the french movie that 12 monkey's was based upon called Le Jetee.
It may be kinda low tech but they tell a great story. I believe Le Jetee also inspired T2.

As far as the visuals are concerned, yeah they were great but it was too bad that the designers stole so much of what they ended up using. For example, an architect by the name Lebbeus Woods took the film makers to court for stealing some of his ideas. If you've seen his stuff then you'll see the correlation between his work and alot of what was going on in the film. In the end the courts ruled in his favor and the film makers had to pay out usage and penalty fees to Mr. Woods.

On the topic of movies giving inspiration, here's one to think about. Directors, cinematographers and DP's all point toward great paintings as being their inspirations. What goes around comes around.

Late,

yes merga i have seen le jetee, it isnt really a movie, just photo graphs played one after another, but a great idea none the less.

Yeah i remember hearing the court case with Mr woods. Nevertheless i still love the movie, and i think one of the reasons the movie looks so good is Terry Gilliam (the director) himself being an artist.

anywho thanks for the input

I have yet to see City of Lost Children, have heard good things about it, and plan to get it, soon. One other movie, I could suggest is Dark City. What do you guys think of that???
