Guess I could show more signs of life...
Still learning 'everything' simultaneously - including this: if I repeat
myself, that's okay. I'm thinking that clarity (for eveyone) is more
important than the embarrassment of telling someone something they knew
already (because I wrote it already). So: to those who read everything,
apologies for repeating myself; and to those who don't read much,
apologies for not repeating myself often enough.
LMAO Sounds absurd (above) but had to be said.
So yeah: as mentioned, focusing on one program/method is a great help. I
don't dislike traditional inking but minor changes are so much easier with
vectors - and one click drops the line weights to zero, any time (for inking
via ur editor of choice, including paper). |

Notes later...
-------------
Thought I mentioned the "Trident" concept in the Patel Grand section, guess
not (just looked). Been working on the back story, it's now Oceans Special
Services, a non-national security force, started as a private/secret project
about 1925 CE. OSS would eventually 'save the world' (Earth) - and all like
that there.
Now they're policing against industrial exploitation of other planets (as
"Moose" is doing (under cover), above)...
Almost forgot: Hitchens (above) mentions Lawrence Krauss again, ie. his
work on 'alternate/parallel realities'; interesting stuff (when traditional
scifi concepts take another step toward reality, or vice versa). |

Same for this one - inspired by Alien, obviously (likely by Dali's

111107 - LMAO! Been meaning to revisit Douglas Coupland's work (and
actually read one of his books (rather than magazine extracts)). Glad to
see a familiar 'work ethic':
"Coupland's work regimen has been characterized as anti-slacker. He
works seven days a week, with no vacations. Coupland is quoted as saying:
"I've never taken a holiday. To lie on a beach someplace seems almost
sinful. What's the point of being around unless you're working on
something?""

Precisely.

Monty Python - Galaxy Song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buqtdpuZxvk
--------------------
111109 - Notes/revisions:
1. "the machine" isn't Perzan's invention, rather he discovered it and is
uniquely qualified to decipher it (it was built by an unknown alien society,
since vanished...); if he doesn't study it someone else will, he's become an
outlaw (barricaded himself) rather than give it up
2. OSS body armour is only a couple atoms thick, animated by an external
'field generator' (housed in whichever vehicle they happen to be using);
portable/wearable generators are common - but useless against the
machine (which employs the same mechanism: "robotic atomics", hence
its nickname, RA)
3. one of the first things Perzan discovers is that RA contains a complete
recording/library of every creature in the area, past and present; Mogen
was the first to be recorded (and the first brought back by Perzan); Ratoa
another; and Elle the most recent ('resurrected' after she was killed by the
durgl)
4. Perzan's tamperings allow "the mogen" ('the dead') awareness of
themselves and their predicament and some degree of control over RA;
when brought back to life Mogen tries to imprison Perzan and free 'his
people' but Perzan is ready for that...
5. as a second experiment, and as a kind of insurance, Ratoa is stripped
of his memories and placed at a safe distance (in Kettara, his native
country)... Terra Group (Perzan's rivals) hope to use him as their Plan B, a
key to unlock Kernis (RA), which is where the story opens: they're not sure
if he is who they think he is - and OSS got to him first (Duncan)
6. as an optional opening (see "crossover piece", above), Mogen is
imprisoned in one of RA's outliers (a kind of booster), isolated so he can't
cause trouble (encourage mutiny by the mogen); Dory and Zack unwittingly
release him (Moose is unaware of Perzan's arrangements)...

Back to the sandbox for a while. Have now got a fair idea of what's doable in
which programs (Blender). Still liking the challenge in making Sketchup 'do
tricks', including *using* its quirks (rather than work around them (as
mentioned above)).
Below, site of a ruined fortress (to follow), ie. next SU test drive. Foreground
and background are a single model x3 (components) - and needs more work,
yep.

Nice.
Still messing around with sculptris?
...I started to look at Groboto, not sure if I will purchase it though, have been messing around with a trial version of the software. It comes at a pretty affordable setting, not more than 100$.... Groboto is very different though, the navigation seems the opposite of Blender.
Blender has a real bad disadvantage I found out, it has to do with snapping elements to another element.
Seems like that is the optimal way to make detailed objects though, it is why I have had problems with it in Blender......
hmm it is dangerous to start look at other software packages..... |

whom, lol, it's expensive, yep (if I read you correctly, ie. both time and money).
Sculptris is great, yeah, but limited (obviously). The main thing I got from SC
is: triangles are our friends.
Sketchup/Inkscape combo works for what I need. Blender is doable (thanks
again for ur help/encouragement) but no more practical/effective than other
methods, at least for me.
Thanks for dropping by/feedback. |

Yea agreed both time and money, Zbrush is way too expensive for me, I can buy another computer here for that price.....
If I had a steady income there would be a difference though..... |

Hmmmm, now I'm wondering what Zbrush can do that Blender can't? Or
Groboto...?
To me lots/most of your work is so intricate/jawdropping already... I can't see
how a different program could make it better? Or maybe I'm missing the point -
wouldn't be the first time.
btw I'm again considering doing *everything* in Sketchup. Have done other
SU character tests that I haven't shown in Sijun... looks like a *huge*
headache/challenge so I'm loving it already. |

I appreciate it man.
I think you hit the nail on it though, I have been looking for something else with my work but I think it all has to do with the split focus on all the mediums, been thinking to get back to straight 3d work again. But yea Blender can do it all, lol maybe I am looking for shortcuts, damn lazy mind to think like that.....
Likewise about your work by the way, you are really good at modeling and anatomy.
How much do you have left of this story? Do you have a full basic concept manuscript?
....I remember when I tried to work on my storytelling some years back I tried to develop a rough basic script of the whole and then detail scenes in the story.
I sucked at it though.... lol.
ohh a lot of "I" in my sentences.... snif |

Thanks whom, I think my anatomy stuff sux but I guess that's standard -
still lots to learn (always; it's a lifelong pursuit, yep).
Re various mediums, I hear ya (or think I do); have thought about that a
lot, ie. what is "digital art", what are the pitfalls: paint, 3d and then so
many programs/options in both - this ain't paper anymore, heh (where the
only option is: produce or don't).
Re the story (many of them by now), have realized a bunch of things
including my own laziness and stalling tactics (ie. been hiding in the
complexity of the story). Also deciphered my own symbology, ie. original
reasons for writing PG.
Maybe I suck at storytelling too: I'm not "hiding" I'm just *bad* at it,
hehe. otoh script/dialogue I can do; so far everyone says my scripts are
good (or they're politely silent about it, heh); this is one part that I don't
constantly correct so I guess I agree.
The logical adjustment: a script-driven story, which I hope this will be
(above). Got the setting, got the characters (the PG crowd with their huge
back stories), let's see what happens. Not knowing the story ahead of time
removes a lot of drudgery too.
Re "I"... as long as u don't say "John and I" we won't send the legbreakers
- for those who haven't heard it's "John and me": I am not I, I am
me; damn Brits *shakes fist*
-------------
Oops: re manuscript (for PG), it was a "discovery draft" (from way back),
then a bunch of revisions in google docs (most recently), which is were I
stalled on endless revisions rather than simply *produce*. For this new bit
I have nothing except the site/situation and characters/back story (the
stuff that makes personality), yep. |

Re traditional advice that a person shouldn't try sculpting until they can draw
well, did a quick test (not shown) to see if 3d anatomy carries over into drawing
(if the equation works back to front). It does (at least for me). Um... *cough*
Added a clavicle and pelvis to this one (below), really useful in understanding
where I usually go wrong (have I said this already?). Trying to resist going
whole hog (full skeleton and every muscle, tendon and attachment): something
about the difference between 'art' and 'technical' concerns - dunno.

Sorry to tell you this, but Your drawing is Awful durgldeep , You have no sense of movement in your characters . They are rigid.
I f you really have the intention of becoming an artist someday you really have to improve your skills you need to learn how to sketch a figure. You have to work hard on this . i really dont think you are going to make because you have not talent at all, perhaps a miracle can change this. Keep doing your 3d models at least they are funny. _________________ Concept artist |
