I tell people its Tom Cruise from the movie "Risky Business".
There was that scene where he was dancing wearing underpants, socks and a white shirt.
Well lets see, I've been poking at this since 2008, so I have no idea when it will be "done".
The terrain editor works fine right now and you can download that and mess around with it. There in no GUI on it so its all key presses, so read the instructions.

I know people go to Kickstarter with less.
But I would like to have more before going there.
That guy is not animated, I just posed him.
I just got an email from an architect I do contract work for, so I just got a new job. Hooray for money! But that means this sits again. |

If you run out of ideas you can just look through sijun forums and find cool characters/stories in galleries and speedpainting threads. Don't think anyone would mind.. au contraire! |

Can you spot Solid Snake?
This picture shows how I've integrated the new GUI stuff, hooked it up to the game states and all those buttons work now.
Except the ones that are grayed out of course.
Message bar at the bottom of screen.
I'll probably make a console style panel later.
Still more buttons need to be added to this screen.

Honest, it all works now
I created an Action system that can be triggered by both customizable Keyboard and Button presses. That was my sample.
When you click it or press "P" the message bar at the bottom reads:
"I pooped!!" |

A splash screen.
The text under it is not an image, it can be set at game launch to be randomly selected from a list of phrases. Although I haven't done the random part yet.

Not really
I was thinking about what that phrase would mean.
So if you destroyed a dog house with a sledge hammer, it wouldnt form a pile of rubble as expected.
It would form a 6 story office building.
But I dont think that will be in the game. |

I made a new Terrain Styles system so...
I decided I had to make some official terrain styles for Skin and Meat.
Skin has pimples.
Now I need to make landscape parts to replace bushes and trees with short hair and 12 foot tall thick strands of hair.
The stream is now puss.
You have to strip the skin off to make roads.

I finished making Landscape styles (trees) into a text file driven thing just like Entities and Terrain styles.
Its a golf course!

After making the golf course terrain, I got bit carried away and made some bullshit golf ball physics.
Looks good so far, almost done with that.
I've included a Driver, 5 Iron, 9 Iron and Wedge. No putters yet.
Driver flight track:
This is at 1/3 scale.
I made everything work at full size, then scaled things down.

So I spent about 110 hours in September making a GolfBallController.
It works great. Still have no idea if I want to really go off course and make a full golf game. It would be faster than making the game I want though.
Here is a mock up of a Planet Map.
One 32x32 space Baseplate is the entire planet, at Level 3.
You can zoom in 2 levels from here.
The colors need to change. I was mostly working out how I want the height of the spaces to work for oceans, lowlands, hills, mountains.
There will be little Monopoly style houses to show where cities are.
Each space has 3x3 sub spaces, so I can run rivers and roads.
( the stuff in the upper left was for materials testing )

The yellow boxes are solar systems.
I might put little boxes around them for the planets.
The Suns might be different colors.

The very small boxes are unimportant stars.
I increased the color variation and elevation of the galaxy background from 3 to 5.
I made the space that the main stars are in, a bit yellowish.

Yeah, my name is always the last.
Still making progress.
If I want to add one thing, then I realize I need to do 5 other things first, then each of those require 2 other things.
I have a working world map/view map with scrolling working, but there is a very noticable 250 ms lag on the scroll when creating the meshes at the edge of the viewmap.
So I'm working on smoothing that out by doing it over time. You cant see those areas immediately anyway, so no one will notice.
On March 15 Dropbox is shutting down everyone's public links, my images.
So I'll need to relocate them ... soonish.
Even Dropbox Pro users will be shut off in September, so paying makes no difference. |

Google removed their 'public links' option a while back, or it's very well hidden now...
Randomly chose Imgur, which is still chugging (for the moment)...
------------------------
I could search a little harder (yep):
Dropbox dropping 'Public' folder

And now all my images are borken.
They stand empty as a silent protest...
until I can be bothered to move them some place else. |

I found this out yesterday.
https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Sha...-support-of-public-folder/td-p/197906/page/53
See post by Rich (super user).
Instructions:
There is no need to change where your file is located.
Right click on a file contained in your computer's Dropbox folder.
Click on "Copy Dropbox Link", it copies to the clipboard.
This automatically flags that file as "shared" on the Dropbox site.
The link has by default this extension: ?dl=0
?dl=0 takes you to the Dropbox preview page. It tries to display the file if possible. A .zip file will show a "Download" button.
?dl=1 forces a file to download (even an image file). It puts up the usual download panel.
?raw=1 forces the file to render in the browser. This replicates the behavior of the old Public Folder system. Except now EVERYONE can do it ( I assume, I havent checked with anyone yet ).
So just edit the extension to be the type you need.
In all the emails they sent they never mentioned the raw=1 method. It is in a faq file here:
https://www.dropbox.com/help/201
I think this is a hidden help page, I cant see how anyone could navigate here from the normal help area.
https://www.dropbox.com/help/167
This page shows a few things, but the link it makes is dl=0 and no mention or link to the page that talks about raw.
I seriously think they dont want anyone to know about raw, or they have brain dead help file makers.
TLDR
Everyone can use dropbox to display images with the new system ?raw=1, even if you got it after 2012.
They don't want you to know this.
Looks like it might not work here because of old forum software.
That exact link works on a different phpBB forum.
