As Jynx you have a great love of nature and the out-of-doors.............This name would cause tension affecting the eyes, teeth, sinuses, ears or throat. There could also be a sensitivity in the heart, lungs, and respiratory organs, and frequent headaches.
heh what a great name.... Change your name and bring pain to the people you don't like by making them constantly call out your name in vein, how you go about it I don't know.

are you pronouncing Elena with an accent?
The flat pronunciation: "EL - EN - UH"
or accented: "EL - LEY - NUH"
? |

I too think Tina fits her quite nicely, but if she does change it......either Monique or Michelle.
My one of my best friends is chinese, and her name is Betty.....and to me, any other name just dosen't go with her. ![](images/smiles/icon_razz.gif) |

Its the perfect old lady name! |

Giant Hamster- It's going to be "Eh-lay-na".
Vesuvius- Hahahahah. Meanrock. That kid's gonna be scaring other kids in school.
See, Tina never even used the name "Tina" yet. It's not in any documents legally. I just refer to her as Tina online because that's the one English name someone gave her once for convenience sake while she worked in Hong Kong. People in Hong Kong have a habit of using English names instead of their Chinese names. No one calls her Tina in real life, except for that one person in Hong Kong.
So, it's not like I'm RENAMING her. She never had a legal English name in the first place.
And as far as the need for using an English name: it make life much easier when living in a western society. Chinese names mean nothing when spelled out phonetically in English, gets BUTCHERED when westerners try to pronounce them, and people have a hard time remembering them anyway.
I was never a real stickler for tradition and cultural purity anyway. I would give my kids Shakespearean names without batting an eyelash.
We chose Elena because it sounds elegant, and has its roots in Greek, Italian, Spanish, Romanian..etc. Certianly sounds more romantic than Tina. |

why don't you call her 'thing' until she's old enough to pick out a name out for herself?
Shows alot of consideration to her feelings.
With a name like 'Tina' she can be ridiculed, in a very poor manner might I add.
'Tina I wouldn't wanna be ya' |

This is totally unfair. I swear man, Elena was one of the suggestions I sent
So anyway, yeah I think she's sort of old enough to pick out her own name.
Unless you'd be talking granny-old, but then she'd be too old to remember what she settled for in the first place, so that wouldn't really serve a purpouse. ![](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |

This name is for her legal papers when she enters the United States. She has no intention to use her Chinese name when she becomes an American citizen.
SHE's the one that chose Elena. I merely asked for suggestions and then presented them to her. |

Damn, too late, i was going to suggest Atina. (like atilla and like tina, but not).
Course, "Mrs" has a nice ring to it as well as "lady" and "madam" and "dame" and "mistress"
hmm, I'm naming my first daughter "Dame" I like that. |
