Great stuff, everyone.

Just a quick B&W sketch. Might actually take it to a more polished stage for once, but that'll have to wait.

@Rinthe: I love the lack of texture (something I should try, actually), but I'd love to see some more contrast or something. That's just my opinion though. It looks great as it is.

Ceresz: thanks for the critique. how do you add in texture, through brushes or through a new layer overlay etc?

Pretty much both. I use brushes, photo tetxtures as well as textures + the clone stamp tool along with various layer modes.

Ranath: I appreciate your notes. I assumed you just used 'quick and dirty' methods, but it's still interesting to me because I've never even played around with masks. Cheers.
Rinthe: Love the woman in blue.
Mon: Always a pleasure to get lot in your expression and strokes.
STPo: Love the simple shapes and hard edges - particularly the Calvin & Hobbes tree!

Mon, Munin, nice!

Brokencow, those are really nice, especially the second which somehow reminds me of old soviet posters, color and design-wise

Munin, Ranath-sweet!

a resketch of one i tried earlier, still could've use more design thought and harder edges in the cloud area I think, and i don't know what to do with reflecting the sky!

moar from me

sometimes at work it's so frustrating to sit at your desk with your photoshop and wacom, and you feel inspired to paint things that would help you get where you want to go as an artist.. but then the art director, or even worse, le wild producer appears and gives you a full-retard brief about some thing you have to do. And after another day of pointless client-work you have to fight to find the motivation to do what you really need to do..

I wonder, exactly how many artists are out there with exactly the same problem?

Ranath, i think a lot of artists are in a similar situation, not having enough time to work on their personal projects etc.
It can be hard to muster creative energy after a long working day too.
Seems like youre managing really well though, good lookin studies!

A few more from me.
On the first I experimented with a photo base and lasso tool, the second is the last one from the b/w environment thumbnails and the third is a quick character sketch that took around 90 minutes.
