Patel Grand (original thread) http://forums.sijun.com/viewtopic.php?t=38817&start=120
Nexus Inn ("sand box") http://forums.sijun.com/viewtopic.php?t=42717&start=90
Just clued re double entendre ("sand box"); sure, why not (name for the
sequence). When I get around to actual story (mulptiple frames) will drop
them in a slide show somewhere, ie. this is still a development thread.
Been a long road, finally bringing it all together (terrain, figures, etc.).
Below is the "character test" (mentioned in Nexus Inn); junk model but
shows that the characters will stand out enough to not need bumping or
whatever (in a paint program).
Nuff said. Onward.
-----------------
Edit: for completeness, here's the actual first shot (from Nexus Inn):

Broke the larger 'block' terrain model into several pieces to make elements for
a 360 degree horizon (tho it's only about 800 metres away). Here's one
component (below); same model, left and right, left one is rotated 180 and
squished (these will work the same way for foreground detail, when I get there).
I hear The 3D Thread will be starting up again (just in time for school?). Yay!
Good thing because I'm not finished with Blender yet, ie. will likely need to
learn rigging after all - long story, later.
--------------
Oh right: not sure if Blender also has "components" (as above). That would
make it more appealing, um, again... *waffles*
And speaking of rigging, rewatching these:

Bedrock's in place, ruins next - but not before a new figure/model, heh
(insanely high poly model, long saves).
All components (as mentioned), which is really cool: when adding detail to the
hills the foreground gets more detail too and vice versa...

Quite sure I can do better than this (multi-level rather than everything on
a single plane (ground plane, ie. the circle)) but it's a start. Here's another
component (highlighted), the second enlarged and flattened (as mentioned
above)...
NB obviously this method can cover a lot of ground (more than the 2 km
circle above), ie. for aerial shots; see 3d thread (first idea):

Hey wiredgear, thanks. Nothing new story-wise. Method keeps changing with
each new thing I learn (still mostly new to 3d): been experimenting with the
same terrain method (above) in Blender. Moving target but I'll get there.
Thanks for stopping by.

animation, I know! lol, been stalling for various reasons; Blender's now got
a pre-made rig/addon so can't use that excuse anymore (eep); the big one
is processing power (can do complex stills but that's about it)... meanwhile
my anatomy/3d skills still kinda suck (*perfectionism*) and 3d just isn't
where I need it to be atm, ie. volumes that deform each other (rather than
stratgic gaps in knees/arms/etc.) but should be there soon (Blender's
changing in leaps and bounds)...
hehe, glad someone appreciates chest hair (am surrounded by body-negative
relgious types, sigh); reminds me, he's supposed to be "coffee-coloured"
(as all terrans would be, this far in the future), or that's the theory
I happen to agree with - so skin colour's not as bad as I thought, cool
thanks for the feedback!

lol well hairy chested is the way to go man. Gotta Revolutionize hairy chested since now a days entertainment favors unhairy chested mofo's.... Gotta give love and support to my hairy chest! lol
Anyway... is 3d just a hobby of yours? I would def love to see some action but I understand where your coming from, I have a crappy rig myself. Only good for old games.
Why don't you move to Maya or 3DS Max? _________________ an.over.dose.of.oxygen |

lol@ love and support - *flashback to Yummy Fur* (alternative comic)
like a hobby but now have lots more time to give it; making a serious effort
lately... can buy processing power if it ever comes to that (if I get good
enough); otoh wouldn't want to stray too far from what the majority have access
to...
I've got maya and 3ds max, yeah; blender's the underdog so no contest
there; having a bit of support makes a big difference, blender's the software
of choice hereabouts (see the 3d thread)... likewise wouldn't want to tempt
anyone to pay for Maya, would rather see the kids go open source/freeware and
save their cash?
nice work in the speedpainting thread btw - and lots of it, wow

aaron2, just so you know the "source" clip above isn't my work (if that's what
you mean); that's professional stuff, which definitely isn't me (I'm just an
amateur); sorry for the confusion.
Regardless, welcome to Sijun! |

Never did collaborate with samhell. Our styles aren't quite the same...
And he's awol. You're in Sweden, light a fire or something...
Maybe I should do an alt ending - not sure he'd approve?

A doodle that went somewhere, and a more focused effort - works.
Texture/clone brush, obviously...
