The theme for this month:

PAINTOVER

Inspiration image by Craig Mullins

We've seen a few paintovers on Sijun lately, echoing, in a small way, the Sijun of old. So let's try it as a theme for June.

If you see an image in the the Work In Progress forum or the speedpainting thread here that you think you can offer suggestions on, paint your ideas over it and post the results. And it's probably worth writing "paintover" on it, to avoid confusion.

A paintover could be a few simple lines, color corrections, or even a change in composition. You don't have to go as far as Craig Mullins' (who is probably the origin of both speedpainting and paintovers) image above, which is a full repaint of an old image of mine.

--

New and old accepted, 2D and 3D, digital and not, finished or sketched. Feel free to cross-post images into other relevant threads, and to post older images that fit the theme. The more images the better.

This was from the popular image that Whom posted a while ago, the one that spawned what must have been the overpaint record of Sijun?

Anyway, I only showed this to Whom. This theme was the perfect excuse to make it public. My first OP also.

Awesome idea for a thread. I remember that particular overpaint by spooge, Sumaleth. ...Hmm must say I like yours better though these days Sumaleth. I can see what he meant with the overpaint, as it focus more on the character and narrows down the scene a bit....

samhell, thanks again. Smile Awesome.

I made an overpaint of one of my old pieces, trying out some different kind of atmosphere, still not entirely sure if I will continue. I do think the piece has potential though.....
Feel free to overpaint if any of you got some ideas.

juharasen, that android is hilarious Very Happy cool overpaint of lemur, i like bright colors!

whom, absolutely not. I feel honored. I made many overpaints of other, it is about time someone does of mine hehe. I like lower view angle. I see that I need make wall much higher. This current one looks unrealistic. Can you tell me how to plan big atmosphere putting down "lines" as shown in your piece. I'd love learn to think with help of guide lines. Maybe make a little tutorial? hehe. I could use grides from Photoshop but this make whole progress a bit more complicated than Id like.

So when are we going to see a 3D or 'oversculpt' theme? Cool

3d would be awesome. Smile

Tomasis, I usually go with freehand perspective and I think it is better instead of the use of grids, to use 3d scenes and then paint upon can become stiff if you ask me, or maybe I just suck lol. Anyway, I personally would rather keep those elements seperate for now at least.

A tip with your piece would be to pick a one point perspective to give focus to your character. I made some quick guidelines with disregard for lighting and such just to see that the lines bend the right way, lol I butchered your piece again I think.

Just remembered this:

Quote:
New and old accepted, 2D and 3D...

All of the Themes have been 3D. Smile

But we will emphasize 3D on the next one anyway.

I wonder if the reason no one has ever posted a 1D image for a Theme is because I never said that they are accepted?

Not sure how this got so complicated. Very Happy

3D was an option rather than the theme itself, exactly.

Cool. Smile

I actually saw that 3d option previously but usually it is too time consuming to mesh out something that looks half decent in 3d so I rather just scribble down an idea for these themes.

whom, i appreciate your overpaint. I made little one for you to give inspiration what can be done regarding light. i know you're fed up with that piece and recharge. I know how it is hard to focus on design and iight at the same time. I had stop there while overpainting so it is a rough one im posting up. Your stuffs are dangerous, I could fiddle forever, haha.

Some great (and amusing) ideas came up in this one. A successful theme.
