@exphrasis: I'm so expecting to see Arnold as a terminator in that scene. Awesome vibe with the colors!

Obier, Nice composition!
Lemur, your stuff is getting better all the time!

So this was ment to be a speedpainting but I got a bit carried away. I was reading the game of thrones books and found the characters quite inspiring. Its supposed to be Victarion Greyjoy for those of you that have read them...

sorry to break etiquette and not post a picture, but I just finished reading a chapter in game of thrones and stepped over to check my messages. Then I came here to look at some art and when I saw your picture, before I saw the text at the bottom the first thing I thought was "that man looks like he stepped out of A Game of Thrones." So, good work.

And Lemur, I second Simon; I really look forward to seeing more of your stuff. After watching you post for years on end (crazy to think about how time has flown since I first encountered these forums), I'd say the technique is coming slowly but surely, and more recently I've seen your work grow by leaps and bounds in the realm of composition. Everything contributes to the whole in your images; at least that's how it's seemed to me for the past several months. Keep it up!

thanks nide, Simon! great works! Notice both you guys have a cloudy, coastal theme going on Cool Inspiring. i was out at the park the other day and saw the coolest rain clouds coming in over the water. Might try to paint it...

sampster- it has been a long while hasn't it? means alot to hear this from you Smile. Lately I've been reading Robert Henri's "the art spirit" and he talks about painting a face by painting a foot, or a background, and other such relativist compositional thoughts. I think learning how to make good compositions outof what you've got is the toughest/most rewarding thing about painting.

lakka-awesome tags yo! i'd like to see graffiti like this everywhere, rather than the standard ol' stylized writing! They are very mysterious, i think with normal tags people just think about "oh, he wanted to get his name up", but with this its mysterious, makes me think about the art rather than the artist.

I was thinking of a halloween version of santa, like a guy with a pumpkin hat lo

Lakka- haaa, you gotta get those mario's back with some more landscapes!

This ain't no speedy, just tryin to steal sargents secrets muhuhaha- its reall weird, this lady died in 1954 but from the looks she was smokin' in her day, just a bizarre thing to contemplate. I used a grid for measuring but it was still hard as hell to get things right, eeergh.

It has been a while, I've been busy trying to teach myself how to sculpt. I've heard it can really help your drawing. Anyway, it is good to be back. Here's a quick sketch I've been working on. I've been reading the Song of Ice and Fire series and I think this is me trying to paint Arya.

exphrasis- I love that interior, reminds me that I need to get out and paint more from life.

lemur- dig the sargent study!

Wheretrumpat-thanks! i'm liking the comp of your picture, and the sepia sortof colors. sculpting really helps i think, i sure need to do it more. Post your sculpts!

I was starting from really textural abstracts, but now I'm starting more flat and trying to use flat stuff more. Textural and weird sortof shapes too early can confuse things quite a bit, suggest lighting that you don't want or texture where there wouldn't be...a couple floaty women-

@leszek_lenia: That top one has a nice Lucasarts vibe to it. I guess Loom or monkey island would be the closest. Wink

Oil thumbnail with a Photoshop paint over the top. Using a new chalky brush that seems to blend fairly well with the oils. Still experimenting.

Lemur - The redhead is cool.....like that.

I know what you mean Lemur, I've been bouncing back and forth between those two approaches myself lately. It is always tempting for me to start out with a bunch of abstract texture because it can suggest so much, but then when it comes to making sense of things it can end up being confusing. Lately I've been trying to stay absolutely flat in the beginning. For me that is harder than it seems, I definitely need to work on it more. I'll try to do one tonight.

More experimentation with digital over traditional oil thumbnails.
