thanks dudes!
sup_ben-ah, didn't think of that! that would've been a really good idea since its pretty midtonal and needs all it can get to tell things apart. This fill lighting idea for your character is nice, especially how you can see the block in of the hands. If i was to do anything with it I would try to make the face as simple as the hands, probably kill the rim light on the face too cause alot of times when rim light is too complex/mishandled even the tiniest bit it kills the whole sculptural illusion of the 'inner' planes-would also probly flatten out the gun and give it a real hard edge to differentiate materials. i guess i'll do an overpaint next post (hope you're alright with that)
some crap, first one not much elements so they need to be so much stronger designd, second one the gundamn is like 'yo', third has some little parts i like but the whole thing isn't coming together-

Lemur, you are definitely right with unnecessary rim light. Soon after starting any image I become a prisoner of details or some local forms, fragments and so on. Sometimes on relatively complex forms you think that particular lighting (like rim light for example) or whatever is an ultimate salvational form-giver, though the simplest way is most likely to be a solution.

Thanx guys,
Lemur...I'm loving those loose studies. The Asian themed one from last page and the archway.

Howie-haha this is great.
obier-i'm honored! haha i wasn't happy with mine either, it went through 3 different versions-posted all of them on my blog.
Quintus-thanks! haha at least when you're ruined you'll have plenty of logos to choose from.
A couple others, some alien that emerged from the abstractness (haha i know, rimlight too) and a Frazetta ripoff skecth after i saw Conan

fantastic, everybody..
nide, sharp eye! it is bowie indeed nice work!
notalfinga, wow
quintus, wow that last one is very cool! damn you hehe. You can keep doing logos, it releases big responsibility from you and after a while suddenly you see that you have 50 awesome illustrations at the end
lemur, i need to stop comment your works. Everything is tasty and I eat up them gladly
leszek, like your style, the middle picture is coool!
sup_ben, firstly you create cool works. I add very little crit/comments/cents: I noticed you use a bit too much saturation in shadows unless parts are very shiny like metal. I understand if it is your style. Another is lack of dedicated light source like in king picture. When I look at this, Im not sure where light source is placed, for example the chair is not taking light. To make such image is fun, it makes the brain working to calculate light rays". Maybe it is easier to see if shadows are more defined along with darker midtones. I hope you dont mind I overpainted your king pic, I wont post this anywhere but here.
For second picture, is it ok I loaned your gun and maybe jacket? hehe that is not overpaint, just inspiration based on your work. Your guy's piece is cool, I like that light. It was nice to see other's works based on that idea. It seems that Im very high contrast guy hehe.
I like when people constantly create difficult challenges for themselves and learn from mistakes and move on. It help us artists to develop our light knowledge (another things also) more. Of course to keep doing studies on very basic light help to tighten our seeing more. To play with both conservative and experimental ways sounds good idea.
For last picture, something that is mine

Tomasis- at the pet, if you comment much then throw a crit in there so I don't grow fattened and lazy
Luckers-awesome gorilla
These scenic/architectural images give me so much trouble, always takes me a long time to figure out what I'm doing in regards to lighting-the lamp was probly too much

Tomasis, thank you for the critics and for the motivation to finish this "king" image.
Quintus, thanks. Trying here your "perspective helps" approach-

Been kind of busy for the past days. Manage to find time today to try out some stuff. Both of this are movie studies but i change some of the elements just to work the mind.

Great studies everyone! I see a lot of guns passing by hehe.
My painting for tonight, started of as a speedy (so I do post the first one) but finished it off in about 2 hours.

Some recent 20min sketches. I'm trying to be more accurate and structured, don't care about detail or expression, that's secondary right now.
This one here is in the monthly assignment but you might have missed it:
RayToh i'm digging it, close warm values

Tomasis, Lemur, Sup_Ben thanks for the comments.
Quintos, I appreciated you checking out my blog. Checked your site as well. Awesome. One of my favorites on is the loose sketch of a guy on a cliff and what looks like a juggernaut elephant behind him.
Couldn't squeeze much personal time out of this week ...
