a little car, thinking of gesture, volume, then detail in that order... good to have a little checklist of drawing

Lemur, yea lol making it look cool is priority one. Thank you, really good your latest stuff too. Especially that industrial one.
obier, Really good, my taste for sure.
Dabbled things back and forth with this one, was drinking a lot of beers during the process and the more alcohol, the more difficult it was to get the piece into some kind of direction.
Interesting for sure, hmm maybe I do use my brain?

Lemur, I'll see your car and raise you with another car, all in.
Trying some different methods, this might be my next project finished sketch. It's still in a very opened phase hence why not added to the blog yet.....
Hmm everytime I post I can't help but feel that I spam bad. Perhaps I should hide? |

Lemur> I think it's hard. Trying to get the perspective right from memory? At the moment i'm just making do. Realise it take alot of concentrate to roughy rememeber the scene. I get distracted easily when i am staring at one thing, then as i walk along, i spot another interesting thing and everything just starts to mess up. I guess more practise should help? By the way, nice image! Love the dusty glow from the previous post. Muahahaa.
Quintus Dias> Beer and paint. Idea! That sounds interesting. Haa. Should try it some day. And i don't think you are spamming man. Post post!
All> Great stuff guys.

Would anyone of you guys be interested in a sketchbook here in sijun? Feels like it would be more allowed to flood such a thread when it comes to daily scribbles. Anyone of you guys up for it?
Raytoh, I appreciate it thank you. You are getting better and better btw, it's wonderful to watch. Memory shots are very difficult, one good way is to look at the same scene for a longer period of time. What intruiges me these days are clouds, the wonders of the abstract shapes up in the sky is powerful to say the least. So lol guess I am spending a lot of time just looking at clouds. Getting drunk and paint is real interesting process btw, you come to that stage when too drunk messes with your mind. I kept simplify towards the most drunken stage then I realized I was too drunk to paint.
Think I will start to do this more, build from a 3d mesh. Forces me to work with the sketch that I have. Common work method for me is to break down and rebuild the scene, changing ones mind to often makes a mess of the sketch process.
Here's the initial stage:

Quintus that sounds splendid, also what program you using for that 3d mesh?
Im thinking of doing that for basis of some of mine, im too rigid with form at the moment and a 3d base would help me. |

ok no sketchbook then, wouldn't be sure if it could work anyway.
mattyuk, I appreciate it. I use Blender for the technical modeling and for concepting. Might head into that direction more, as it is now I enjoy both 2d and 3d the same. If you choose Blender take notice that it takes a while to learn it, many months... Blender is awesome though btw so yea go for it.
Quick scribbles are easier and quicker though.

beautiful stuffs everybody!!!
raytoh, awesome works lately! like strange guy with sword! light is cool. It is always good to think through painting process and think where one can improve. We think same about simplified theory: contrast.(remember old signature?) I even wrote text about that. Im not sure if everybody should understand that. haha .. thanks for the link to spooge txts btw. It will be nice reading hours.
lemur, to decide lighting first is good way to get quick painting. But it sometimes happens when I dont know what exact image I'd get. I get vague idea what it'd happen. I think it is alright play with simple strokes while deciding composition, light and such things. when everything is set, then work down on details. Almost same as doing pizza, putting lots different stuffs subtracting adding moving those, when it is ready with lots of stuffs, then put this into oven Very Happy It is fun experiment with different process
quintus, nice site plus header. Funny I like first image of the whole progress image, maybe it depends that I'd look there where characters look. Awesome stuffs lately. Very beautiful tree paintings in theme thread, wow!
someone mentioned it is hard with perspective, indeed.. when i hassle with any image sometimes I dont have time for polishing values, shapes.
I guess I give more priority for energy, movement, content in a painting :p

Quintus-awesome, you car would crush mine easy haha.
Raytoh-thanks! I see you using halftones to nice effect!
Tomasis-yeah, thats pretty much what I mean. Have a general idea and play around, but it can't develop till you decide because the developing strokes are limited by the light in which the subject is in. Very important!
my tree, kinda feel bad for crossposting this but what the heck (and Matthew thinks hes spamming lol)

The monthly Theme rules not only allow cross-posting, but encourage it. Think of the theme thread as an archive of like-images filtered out of all the other threads. Or something. _________________ Art Links Archive -- Artists and Tutorials |

obier, we're all spamming lol. But yea it is crazy it starting to become weird and one questions why one is posting.
Lemur & Tomasis, thanks guys.
Tomasis, yea I agree, must be that those more opened sketches gives more to the viewer. Once developed it narrows down the motif and not much left to interpret openly for the viewer. That's a interesting discussion you know.
Once excluded from exhibits you gotta make your own exhibits, in mind perhaps?
I really would like a sketchbook but at the same time I wouldn't want it to become like the 3d thread where it ends up with one or two posters.
ok I am not gonna post that much in here from now on, one post monthly or something. So there will be no reply to this post.
Thanks for all encouragement guys, I think I am getting closer to where I did end off last time. |

Magical boobies:
@Quintus, I really dig how the painting "extends" over the borders of the canvas! somehow my brain associates the piece with the world of Killzone. Maybe the color scheme? |

Sumaleth-haa i guess I knew that.
Matthew-don't believe you, you'll be back muhuhaha. Really cool idea with the gallery, might try something like that.
Some knight head, looks too gimmicky to me- hid my problems with the light gradient cause I was too lazy to pick up a spoon and figure out the reflections in a nice way....drawing wonky...next time, next time

Hey everyone,
I'm new. I've been a huge fan of this thread for a long time but had no idea it was still going on...I know that statement is contradictory but I think the main reason I did not know it was still alive was because the only time I visited was to view spooge's old posts...Anyway, I'm psyched that people are still posting here!
Quintus: thanks for getting me here! I'm loving this last one you posted. Reminds me that I need to get out to some galleries again...
Lemur: I've been wanting to say that I really enjoyed that dragon hatchery a while back.
Everyone: great stuff, lets keep this thread alive!
Here's my attempt at posting...I'm new to posting on sijun so I'm new to the fact that you can't upload from your computer. I hope this works.
