So cool stuff happening here!
Sparth those are amazing! I really like the strong feeling of scale in your paintings and good use of gradients.
I tested alchemy. I have no idea what I was doing
Let your mind fill in the rest 'cause I feel lazy

thanks guys!
here's a thing i just did tonight. wow, i actually went medieval!
the funny fact is the more i try to bring back the scene into something realistic by adding believable details and structures, the more i fail. i need to train more i guess.

@Sparth. Just because you don't achieve what you set out to, doesn't make your image a failure.....C'mon. Move on, get better, but don't bash yourself over the head on the way up, huh?! (I'm not trying to teach you, I'm just noticing a "negative" choice of words ) |

Great image, sparth! I especially like the way you use light in layers. It gives depth and feel to image. Btw, how much do you use image textures or do you prefer custom brushes?
Ok. Here is my quick hangar. ~1h.

Capt.Fred, hey nice to see you again, thank you. Yea I sure remember a lot of stuff of yours, it's me "Matthew" btw.
Lemur, Yep I sure did Sir. Seriously though, glazing is a very effective method but as most tecniques it must have balance with everything as sparth said. Think I better not try to teach in here these days....
juharasanen, That Knight is awesome.
Nide, awesome aswell
A beauty to see the activity in here, feels like the old days with the discussion and all.

thanks everyone!
sukkhoi: hehehe actually what i meant was that i tend to prefer NOT describing things too much because of higher statisticsg of failure: i haven't described a lot of elements in the piece, letting a lot of things suggested instead of described. hence why i think this image was rather successful, even though i was not confronting myself to the danger.
juharasanen: zero textures in these, as they're not photo based. all textures come from a blend of custom shapes repainted over and over with clone stamp brushes containing textures in dual mode.

Sparth: That grisaille reminds me a lot of Kekai; I love how just a selective monochrome wash on a black and white painting can add so much more life to it.
And that latest one is looking so good!
I assume it probably varies on a per painting basis, but do you generally keep your economy in check by slowly building up and saving your details until the end, or is it more of a back and forth process of rendering up areas and knocking back the ones that don't contribute to the image?
Broke out the oils for the last portrait of the week: totally messed up the first hour and a half of the portrait and had to scrape it off the canvas, but the last hour went a little better:

Quintus Dias, sparth, nice stuff guys
Lemur, loving those b&w figures
I've been working on my landscapes a lot recently, feels like an area that never held a lot of interest for be before. Very different now though! Both of these are photoshop, I'll have to try painter as well and see what kind of result that would produce.

sparth: I guessed so. And I have known your work for a long time Just wanted to make sure because there are two different ways to approach, at least. But your colors and tones looks so vibrant that I thought you paint by custom brushes.
Great work! _________________ JP Rsnen

Lemur, the dragon hatchery is fantastic! I just finished reading The Hobbit and your image instantly reminded me of the dragon's palace!

Mon, Lemur: Lovely stuff!
Did a quick Sargent study to test out the new oil brushes I made. Might've found a new favorite brush...

h2rra-thanks! when I was little i had a big book of tolkien based artwork, I was actually thinking of Smaug's lair when I painted that I like the cyberpunk feel of your pic, looks like its that guy's last stand.
ili-thankya dude, nice study, looks like nice brushes! i like the spatter effect.
something from tonight, I learnt that when I'm uninspired its fun just to start a new painting and save it for later, so I'm like juggling 5 paintings or so. Its alot more inspiring and keeps my thinking fresh. i find that the thought process of starting a painting and realizing a painting are so different, its really interesting and useful to know-

Great stuff everyone. It's always very inspiring to come here. Beside the great artwork, the sharing and the passing of knowledge. It's priceless! T^T Just came back from paris and have visited the museum. Awesome experience. It's hard to even put it into words. The one thing i got from the visit is, I need to do outdoor painting! I need to paint from life! The illusion of light from the painting is amazing. T^T Train train train!
Below is a piece i've been experimenting with. Not a speedy. Been trying to experiment with my working process abit but my patience dies off with this piece. I decide to put it aside after reading lemur's "save it for later" message in his previous post. Hee. Thanks Lemur. I guess i'll put it aside first and maybe come back again with a fresher eyes. Now for my plan to do outdoor painting.

Trying out some of that clone stamp thing Sparth mentioned in his last post. havent used the clone tool all that much so here is a little beginning.
Layout and general shape design when a bit out the window. but im liking the potential of the tool..
how do you guys use it? right now i just made a layer with some crisscross lines and cloned from there to make the buildings...
im most pleased with the background houses at the farthest right.. the middle ones got too much attention and thus got ruined |

Thanks guys for the previous comments and interesting discussion, last few pages have been stunning. sparth, AjTron, great work.
Been working on a forest for the monthly theme over at gnomon, started with a warm thumbnail painting then worked over the top with cool colours.

haha, love it T_england-hope that dude can climb a tree...fast
Raytoh- haha, glad my words gave you the idea, the little artifact cube is mesmerizing me.
Levi-when you call those 'sketches' i cry and die a little inside, lol. Love your blog by the way!
AJTron-glad to see you here! was it you who was working on the dune project? Sick sketch anyways
Learning that some things are best in graphic, or printable form (i realized thats where the word 'graphic' comes from and it all makes sense now). I have such a problem trying to go smantzy pantsy when something actually reads better simplified-also started using the pencil tool. Thought it was crap before but if you need a disgustingly simple oversharp shape its perfect!
I also notice when using graphic shapes I make better decisions about informing the light that informs the forms, when gettin fancy its easy to overlight or even forget lighting altogether for the abstractness interplay of shape edges and such.
