So, I've been planning on getting into Digital Art. As I am, I have no drawing skills worth speaking of, but I think I have enough of an imagination, and enough determination to become at least somewhat skilled. Another artist I asked about this suggested a High-End Wacom Bamboo tablet. Should I go for the Bamboo Pen, or should I splurge and get the Bamboo Fun? Should I get a completely different kind of tablet?

Also, hello Sijun.com forums.

Fix'd
"So, I've been planning on getting into Art."

You should get:

6. a sketch pad for pencils
7. an HB pencil
8. white vinyl eraser
9. if you want to splurge, get more pencils with different hardness
10. set up things on a table to draw
11. draw from your mind
12. draw some more
13. draw fast and sketchy
14. draw slow and detailed

I understand that you want to post digital stuff. But you need to have some skills first, you get that by filling sketch books

I'll leave you with a digital MeinKraft Hitler.

Are people really skipping the sketch pad phase and starting with digital?
Have fun drawing, either paper or digital. Smile

Welcome to Sijun! Smile
I agree, usually it's better to start with pencil/paper.
On the other hand, if you've got loads of determination it doesn't matter where you start. Very Happy
Some people do amazing stuff with just a mouse. Example: http://forums.sijun.com/viewtopic.php?t=41857
Edit: oops, pencils are used in that one; was recalling the posts where only photoshop and optical mouse are mentioned. Sorry.
Obviously fancy equipment is no more helpful in learning to draw than a fancy car is in learning to drive
(or insert appropriate analogy here: ________ ).
Lots of tablets end up stuffed in a drawer and forgotten - they're not 'magical' at all, nosiree. Smile
Maybe check the Wacom thread too: http://forums.sijun.com/viewtopic.php?t=42287
The important thing: Wacom nibs and tablet surfaces are now "consumable items" (they wear out/need replacing).

Hope this helps.

Edit2: recovery attempt (from stumble; above); mouse:

Hi! I use a tablet every day in my work. I recommend an Intuos 3 A5 (6x8) to beginners. While it's not the cheapest option, it will last you a very long time. It's just not much fun drawing on smaller tablets.

But Bamboo Fun tablets are roughly the same size, and is cheaper. I can't seem to find one at my local Futureshop, either.

'Less, this is what you're talking about.

I think he meant this one:

The prices at this store are crazy, way too high.
Whatever you decide to buy, get it from Amazon if you can. Or any other place would be cheaper than here. Shop around.

Oh is that Canadian money prices?

I meant the Intuos 3 A5.

If you have the money go for A4, (9x12) but again that is quite a step up.
The reason I recommend the Intuos 3 is because of its price. You can probably get it used at a good price. I don't think the Intuos 4 is all that great. The pen nib/Wacom surface is not a good combo. Wears out crazy fast.

I wasnt expecting the 3.

I got the Intuos 4 large (8x12)
I dont use it enough to burn through nibs.
