snootchy- 24hr drawathon? that sounds awesome lol, once I went to the met museum in the morning and came out in the evening all exhausted and feeling like I would die, its sort of like the sirens of the old myths, you go in and see the armor section and you either collapse from trying to draw too long without sustenance or get booted at the end!

Tomasis-thanks! I understand your thoughts on flat shapes and hiding in the darks! I was just reading through some of spooge's old posts and saw he mentioned both-makes me want to learn to paint in gouache because that stuff operates on the planes and shapes-can't smudge it all around.

Lakka-i'm happy you like the wordy part-I'd say a thousand words for every picture should do Smile the blank areas around the pictures in my sketchbook are all crammed with writing, maybe it helps with learning, maybe not. I'd say for dynanisism to mess with the point of view-this will involve perspective of course, but at first its good just to rotate around the subject in your imagination and try to find an really awesome angle you are looking at it from. This is something I need to do alot more, i'll draw a figure and it'll get boring mighty quick and then only later will I realize the eyeline went through the center and no forms really got to get forshortened or covered up bladdy blah blah...

soulburn-congradulations on the little girl! great that you are finding time to paint in these wild times Smile

notic-thanks!

banano-thankyou, i think thats an interesting idea, I agree with you on perspective grids-its really an eyeopener. With some stuff I can freehand it, but anything with an edge or on a big plane better get that grid or its goin down fast!

raytoh-nice feel to it, I think edge variation can be such a huge part of wether a pic works or not. Funny how looking at the surface of something you can get a feel for what the edge will be like from what isn't the edge.

i drew this battleship over a couple days and did design sketches and stuff- I wanna learn that advanced sort of designer perspective that those designer guys use, love alot of the work like that... this pic doesn't hold a candle, learned a bit though so can't complain (hid those cannons in the darks cause I didn't get them arrgh)

lemur haha i'm sure we've all had those kind of days, loitering and getting the boot, also forgot to mention the http://www.januscollaborative.org/ they used to have on sundays figure drawing open to the public (not sure if it's still running) and they hold the same pose for the like 4 weeks and sunday runs for about 6 hrs so if you wanted ultra long pose study time that's also a great place, actually i'm really considering going to that atelier cuz i took a few classes with dan thompson before at GCA and he teaches now at the Janus and is extremely knowledable!

this page is uber hotnezz, great updates all!

snootchy-thanks for the link, I saw mention of the weekends on their site but no details about it, I'll keep checking. I appreciate your extensive knowledge on drawing events out here Smile i feel like a shut-in lol

zupzup-thanks! I'm lovin how you use the paint, very nice!!!

sansan-that roman dude is cool, i like how the armor and shield are modeled.

Peris-reminds me of vanishing point, badass.

I'm trying to refine with transitory shapes- you can get really good movement with line just with the motions of your arm/hand throughout- but in paint since you have to deal with surfaces of the planes and changing color/value I think its best resolved with using smaller transitioning shapes and planes to describe the effect of movement- so its kinda start/stoppy, but it gets the description-I really want to do this more and more (guy has mutant too short arm and has baby hands compared to head haaa)

also switched from rgb to the HSB picker- I like the rgb one for getting colors exact but it takes too much time if you just want to change the tones (gotta adjest 3 sliders instead of one), so I feel I was color picking off the canvas and trying to blend too much cause of my lazyness with RGB. The HSB picker has since resolved this.

lemur: np anytime! as for the rgb slider you may want to check out lin ran's tutorial makes a lot of sense, actually i use the rgb slider used to use the hsb for long time but switched to the rgb after reading his tutorial, hope this helps! http://paperasylum.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/lin_rans_tutorial_translated_by_paperx.jpg

sansan u are not human, awesome!

ZM no prob hope it's helpful, a bit confusing but makes sense, also if you are interested in a good script in PS for getting the color picker box to pop up with a hotkey, you might want to check this action script (currently use this)http://www.groovypost.com/howto/groovytip/enable-color-picker-shortcut-key-photoshop-cs3-cs4/, also the tutorials notes to hit cancel after the color picker box pops up but you just hit ok and that shapes layer disappears.
