Hello,

I wonder if some of you might be interested in my new website which conducts weekly art contests online for just about anyone. Following is a description:

Art-Wars.com features speed painting contests online for cash prizes, each week, on Friday. Our first-ever contest will be January 22nd, 2010. Art-Wars.com attracts artists from around the world. Interested artists must read the requirements, create their piece in response, and upload it to the site, all within 24 hours. All entries are presented online, and contestants and other site members vote for their favorites. There is a small entry fee ($5). The winner receives half of the accumulated entry fees ($2.50 from each entry). Its a great venue for those who like to work fast, with high energy and creative imagination. For those who can develop a pleasing product within established boundaries, it offers what are expected to be significant rewards (based on the number of entries, of course). Contests are open to all ages, but parental consent may be required. Digital and traditional media are accepted.

Thanks!

David Price

So I'd have to win once in every (total members / 2) times to break even...

It is interesting, but how do you justify the kinds of profits you'll be making?

Hi Ian, Thanks for your interest and comment. It's taken me considerable time and resources to get the site up and running, and will take quite a bit more to maintain and market it. I suspect it will take quite a while before I break even on it, let alone make a profit. Wink

You might want to add a live paypal donations tracker for everyone to see. Who's to say how much money you'll be making, unless its disclosed for us to see.
Plus half the profits? Its a little exigent. especially considering how basic the website is. Maybe if you took 1/5th of the proceeds. Otherwise no thank you. I think it should all go to the winner(s). half to first place, 3/8th to second and 1/8th to third place.

Hi Nebulus, In fact, I do have a live tracker for everyone to see, on the homepage, under "Current Cash Prize." This compiles the amounts of successful transactions. I feel I'm being quite open about the amounts received and the way prize money is derived.

As far as the percentage that you feel is fair, it will be hard enough to break even on this, given the upfront costs and maintenance and marketing of the site. I think you will find, if you look around at any other art contests on the web (though there aren't many), that the winning amount, usually a static number, is pretty small compared to the entry fees gathered. In comparison, my percentage is pretty good and simply is meant to eventually cover my costs at this point. Thanks for taking a look though.
