Certainly not good, but it's my first full painting attempt. I thought I'd share it for fun and maybe get some good advice for future efforts. Thanks!

The first thing I'd do is look at it in greyscale, see what the values are (values are a basic thing that I'm just learning myself). Saturated colour can make areas seem brighter than they are? Hope you don't mind:
