That is interesting Lemur/Godzilla! Detailing and Balance are really hard to come by. Since I am such a sloppy guy, the most difficult thing is to come up with some intersting composition (thats a question of balance too, isn't it?). And if I ever do, will I find the nerves to finish it enough to post? I mostly start with a feeling I want to visualize, and when I can see it in my picture the speed part is done. The rest is detailing for glossyness sake (or call it clients or audience). I tried it out on your subject. Sometimes you need to polish a lot, for example to create the impression of something shiny and new...

wow miles! i guess that is the point of the speedies, is getting that feeling down as quick as can be-and i think thats a great way to think about it, as when i wasn't i would tend to get hung up on unimportant things, when the whole mood and strengthening that mood is really what is important.
I think your pirate skeletons are alot more successful than mine, because you really showed the character narrative of these old ghouls-wheres i think I was shy from trying that, and simply tried to render instead of getting a good idea out there. I'll definitely keep that in mind for the future!
something to post-tried an acrylic version of the last wrecked ship, getting alot more comfortable with traditional now as far as mixing according to the values, otherwise mixing becomes too confusing-also organizing your space to paint helps ALOT.

nice sup_ben- those guys gonna break those tanks?
tried doing an airplane- figured that trying to force direct lighting doesn't work, the thing has light bouncing all over it! it looks pretty boring now that i see it here, need to work on my variety...
