Hello all, I'm a 22 year old artist based out of DC. I'm looking to grow as an artist as well as find a community that will keep me inspired and on my toes. I've lurked a bit here and there but have never had the guts to post anything. Until today.

I'd like to get much better and hope to have a steady job doing art. Feel free to flood me with your thoughts and information.

I love books so if you know of any good ones I'd be grateful for the suggestions.

Very Happy
Here is some artwork for good measure.

Super work...

Check out http://rationalpainting.org ... It's pretty much all based on traditional media, but there are a bunch of members who also combine digital and traditional... We need allies there... Twisted Evil

Mull- I appreciate that, I'm here to learn as much as I can.

Capt. Fred- Thank you I have a bunch of images of some of the museum promotional drawings.

Eyewoo- I was a member of rational painting, but I moved the same week i was accepted. By the time I got my computer all set up, my account was gone. I just haven't had the guts to ask for membership again.

Jabo- I'm glad you enjoyed the drawing

Sumaleth- Thanks for checking it out.

Selphoo-I wouldn't say awesome, but thank you.

Joe84- I'm a big fan of Leyendecker as well as a lot of other Golden Age illustrator. I received the Cutler and Cutler book as a gift and it is amazing.

Here is a recent lifedrawing. not much to it.
The model's name is Brian. I apologize for the quality, the photo was taken with my girlfriend's Iphone.

Nice paintings rawiii

I recently read this book:
http://www.richardschmid.com/alla-prime_pages4.htm

its pretty good and explains the basics (drawing, values, edges etc etc) in a way that made me learn a few new things. Its always good to hear the basics repeated by someone else cause you always end up learning something from that persons experience.

Another guy that has alot of illustration tips and trix is James Gurney over at www.gurneyjourney.blogspot.com and hes also got a book out:

http://www.amazon.com/Imaginative-Realism-Paint-Doesnt-Exist/dp/0740785508/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1266704620&sr=8-1

-s

good luck and please keep posting your work here!

Thanks alot everyone,

T_England- I did the plein air on my laptop in photoshop CS5 with a small wacom bamboo tablet(what i use for everything).

Sumaleth- thank you I'm always drawn (no pun intended) to sometimes search for abstraction but lately I've just been tring to follow the form my subject you know? As direct as I can be thring for abstraction in areas as a compisitional tool instead of trying to seem clever. Although the temptation is always there...

Mon- Holy crap!! Big fan nothing more i can say but thank you!

Here is a painting I'm working on for a friends animation project
