Hey, i read through the thread started by farvus.. I'm been going to sijun.com since I first got into digital painting in 2006 and it has looked the same ever since.. It feels to me as if this is just an abandoned forum that could get removed any day.. I don't know what people are working on this place at the moment so I don't know what is getting done or not, but what would give this place more life would just be something to recon sijun with.. Right now its the speedpaint thread and thats why most people I know sign up and post here.

If you had anything going that would be special/unique or just offer something extra ordinary I think there would be more life here.

What keep this place alive at the moment are the people who remember "the old days" or the people who are just posting as a habit i guess.

More sijun promotion a contest of some kind is a great start. I'm not sure of your poll alternatives.. but I will vote contest anyway. Learning will come from that as well.

Maybe, and I don't mean to completely revamp the whole site.. but maybe do something to the theme ? I love the "overall" theme.. the dark blue and that is something i miss everywhere else where everything is either black or white or weird colors that hurt your eyes.
and I also love the minimum forum-style.

I'm really just brainstorming.. I already love sijun for what it is, even if I'm not an active poster ( I had another account with some posts tho'.. lol ) but I still frequently visit for the atmosphere and the look of the forums ( easy to follow espcially ) It will also help if the people on here kind of spreads the word i guess.. there are already enough kickass artists here to drive the place ( the zomg-effect =p I WANT TO BE LIKE -insert artist here- ) and probably enough moderation aswell ? ( I don't see any spam on here so.. )

another good thing would be to enter the DW if thats possible.. I'm not sure of the requirements for that.. but I think it would help if people saw sijun on those banners

again, give artists a reason to go here.. not just when they have made a speedpaint they want help with or just post.. If people want to start a sketchbook or post finished stuff.. where do they go etc ? Is the feedback good enough ? Is there "Zomg awesome art man"-posts or actual feedback and critique going on ? ( I know theres a bit of both.. but if the ppl driving the place offer real feedback people will follow by good example.. its doomed to go downhill if nobody says something or does something crucial. )

I'm not saying you should eliminate the "wow awesome stuff man" posts.. but be of good example and show that this site is resourceful useful.. I think this is an attitude that has changed over the years.. on most sites especially since younger people have found their way here ( I'm quite young myself hmm ) and that is obviously influencing the overall attitude. Ca.org and Sijun ( afaik ) used to be of critique-direction, and if something looked wrong someone would make an overpaint or a longer post explaining their point of view.. something i rarely see today.. but maybe I just have to dig deeper , I'm not sure.. its just a vibe i get hehe.

anyways.. I will definitely try to participate more.. and I hope more ideas and actual 'change' will be done to improve this site.

There was a thread way back where someone started some kind of comic and members could post the continuation of the comic. One picture was made and then someone picked up from that pic and made another one.
Perhaps something like that would work again?

Do most of the people posting in the speedpainting thread even look here under Digital Art Discussion? Maybe a lot of people aren't even aware of this poll.

I agree to a certain degree that Sijun seems more or less to be dying, but of course as long as some of the awesome people still posting keep on posting it won't.

Maintaining relevance while still avoiding being flooded seems to be an almost impossible balance..

im in for a contest- i say we do it all though, just start with the contest-as far as a lineart thread i dunno-someone whos not shy about providing the lineart! I think another good idea would be to provide an abstract blobby sample and see what people make of it, and some more theme threads as far as ideas (cars, planes, dune, cities type threads have gotten some cool buzz in the past)
