udal, really nice airforce studies, they strike me less as patriotic and more.. contemplation.. remind me a bit of Hoppers paintings. Really interesting to look at actually.
minjarr, nice marks and suggestion

I just started to try to find out that Painter X this software, is not very skilled, moreover, the picture is not good, if you have the good idea, please give me to help. Thanks!

Wow- there has been quite some interesting things on the last couple pages. both painted and written. I would love to join but would probably be emberassed to post anything. I barely make a living atm and am spreading my time too much on things like painting oils and digital, illustration and then some 3d stuff. So I suck at all of them.
Some things I wanted to add:
a) General advice: Dont spread yourself too thin on too many diffrent things. Its great to have more tools in your arsenal, but I guess there is a breaking point somewhere.
b) zupzup: One book to add to your list http://www.amazon.com/Fill-Your-Paintings-Light-Color/dp/1581800533/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1245619295&sr=8-1
c) I do not agree on plein air painting being the ultimate form of studying, but its just so great. I really started to learn about colour when I took my easel outside. Painting in oils (or other traditional mediums) teaches you lots about colors you will actually NEVER pick up with the digital media.
d) Matthew: Copying is well worth your time. I do not think it spoils anybody unless you overdo it (like anything). |

Cool stuff going on
JOuey, Udal......beauties
JakeG...I like that
Thanks retro for the link! I will have to check that out.
Also I agree with what you said as well....plein air is definitely not the end all of studying, and I don't want people to come away with that. I know I definitely love studying from a broad range of sources. I do think though if we ever have the opportunity to study the "real" thing, whether it be a figure, tree, gun, original Bouguereau in a museum etc,........that we should always seize that, if possible. _________________ WEBSITE |

Been playing around with some more abstract type speed painting, they're basically just exercises in color and form. Here's some examples, I have to say they're really relaxing to make, you just turn off that literal part of the brain and deal with pure composition.

Why don't you ever bring a drawing to a stage where you can really recognize something and then let the viewer build the rest. 2 / 3 of your pictures are a wild mess of brushstrokes to me.
Your last is like som guy with a sniper aiming a big stroke of ... I dont really see anything. Are you afraid of making decisions? Thats what it looks like to me.
I'm sure you could make some good pictures but why do you refuse to do so and stop at a point where its not even a sketch.
No attack, I just don't understand that and that what comes to my mind, seeing your last pieces.
