Khan: Awesome to see you here man, Really like the first two, especially the second though.
EAD: Nice!
ZUPZUP:Damn i love your works, the plain air stuff is tremendous, and it appear to be paying off nicely, need to grow a pair and give it a shot, i guess I'm afraid of the epic muddy fails that are bound to happen at first :/ But inspiring stuff!

Umm I rushed this a little, bad excuse, egal paint to post :D

I considered joining the discussion on Master 'Copies' but decided I'd rather just paint another picture to post. Razz

More experimentation with some new brushes

Thanks T_England!

Plein Air is like cRAck.....so addictive. In my opinion it is the ultimate form of study....going straight to the source, in glorious 3D, whether it is the figure or the mountains. The outdoors are an endless source of inspiration. The lighting, the colors, the smells, the sounds......ahhh. I've learned so much by doing plein air. You see so many things you never see from a photo, or on a monitor. It will also really help to speed you up, because you are usually racing the sun, or some other natural phenomenon. It makes you think on you toes, and go with your gut instinct. My advice if you decide to try it ---

1. Start small. Having a large canvas staring at you is a daunting thing, and hard to do if you are racing the setting sun. Also not finishing will make you feel like a loser, and might keep you from going out again. Settle for small victories starting out.

2. Narrow your focus -- You have a 360 degree view staring at you demanding to be painted, and that too can be daunting or hard to figure out where to start sometimes.. Try narrowing your focus on something specific and paint that, without trying to fit the entire outdoors all into one canvas.

3. Start our with a limited color palette -- having the whole box of crayons at your disposal is never a good thing anyways. You always get mud when you are using the whole color spectrum and don't have a clear vision where you are going. A couple of quick thumbnail sketches help me before I start painting get my composition, and help me break down my painting into 4 or 5 main planes.

4. Have fun.

A couple of books that I have found over the years to be invaluable

Edgar Payne - Composition of Outdoor Painting

Carlson's Guide To Landscape Painting

Now go PAINT!

btw RayToh, good depth without making it too complicated.

Personal reminder, don't paint for longer than 5 minutes.

At this stage I try to calm down some areas, smooth details that takes up too much attention. In traditional it is important to understand what glazing can do and cannot do.
If painting traditional every glaze you do makes the whole darker.
Digital makes that part much pleasing, just boost the brightness.
Does anyone of you glaze?
and with that I am just asking with your digital stuff.
/need to work on the perspective for next update....

lol I don't think you guys wanna conversate with me anymore.. oh well.

ZUPZUP: Really man thanks for taking the time to go through those, some excellent points there. I think its time to search out those oils, take em to a spot and experiment. Must be nice out there on that boat in the wilderness. Richmond park is about as wild as it get round these parts hehe

Mathew: Really nice step forward with your latest ones i love ambitious shots like these, has good light and balance. Keep going, more pressups! hhah

jOuey: Really good drawing, very confident.

Today's work,

I love Sijun!

This is by far the best Art site on the web...
The level of the art just blows me away daily...
