matthew,
i think you're going somewhere with your last two/three pieces. it speaks to me much more than your other experiments. i think i know why: you're establishing a level/hierarchy of details in a better way. putting details where details are relevant. anyway, i like it. Smile

jouey: you rock Smile

sorry, nothing to post this time.

>matthew yeah totally agree with the other comments; that last one rocks; mayb because it's also more figurative , more recognisable shapes

jouey > great, quality and quantity

jouey,toast,sampson- awesome as always!

matthew- that last one is incredible, I would say pm me but i think there are many others in the thread who could contribute to the subject, dunno if they get the hints though lol.
Id also like to talk about approaching towards detail aswell, but still blabbing about abstract shapes and what not-
With the abstract shapes vs. the object shapes it seems to me in life painting that its almost best to let go of the 'social' connotations of the subject to think more freely of the drawing value edges and color relations...but illustrating is a different beast to me, much more exploration and usage of themes not to be found in potted plants or whatever still life... I guess like everything it all depends on the goal... gah im in over my head.

Heres some sort of bad accident with a mountainside, blocked it in acrylic, then it rode through the PS machine, i think it got confusing in the crater with blurred vs. soft edge-focus is just one more thing to think about!

Mikko K, fripp, Insane Lemur, Matt Godzilla, Samsonsreaper... Shocked

jOuey: You're tearing this page apart. Love what you are doing lately - particularly that strange mount.

Some recent DS speedies...

oh my oh my, I think you guys are praising that piece way too much.
Just a little bit more detail. Anyway, thanks. Smile

Lemur, keep going and you will find out where you wanna go with your art.

Gimp kept crashing, installed an older version.
I really shouldn't paint, should just watch X-Files. Can never go wrong with that lol.

I think when you take time to resolve the drawing and vary your surface it makes for a stronger illustration. I don't think people were responding to detail for its own sake.

jOuey: I really like this latest one... I want to walk over that ledge so bad... I want to see what's on the other side!

Matthew: I know you're gonna do whatever you want and disagree anyway, but I'll pointlessly point out that you are super talented and when you work out your forms a bit more the results are really amazing. I'm thinking of diving into abstract obscurity so I can come up with what you have achieved. I'm happy you're posting again.

Ben: It must be nice to be awesome. Very Happy

Mikko: Love that one.

I'm rather embarrassed.
I just realized that I never introduce diagonals and all my lines are vertical or horizontal. was trying to be fast like jouey but ended up with bad edges, bad forms, bad drawing.... SIGH.
can anybody help a brother out?

Lots of cool stuff being posted

jOuey - inspiring stuff there!

octavian - enjoyed those gouache/digitals you worked up! Your latest has some cool elements. Like the rider and castle, as well as well as the cloud treatment. A few of those edges could be tightened up a bit. Watch those foreground twigs/grass they are feeling a little stubby. Hope that helps.

feels like everyone on sijun is improving- every post has something I like

Anyone have Vilppu's drawing manuel? been reading it and realized how much i've been skimping the basics, very inspired.

need to analyze my thoughts further, but at least something to post
