Actually, I don't own any of the newer systems. I just go over to my friends' houses and play theirs. My opinions on the games are just from me spending a few evenings with them. I'm not advocating _any_ of them; and I was just poking fun at the N64 and Nintendo's short-sighted reliance on cartridge technology, which drove prices through the roof compared to the cheap CD duplication of the other systems. In fact, if anyone's got a hate-on here, it's seems to be you with your anti-Xbox sentiments. Whatever; I'm no fan of Microsoft either. Buy whatever system has the games you want to play.

Oh, and having played MarioCart 64, I agree it makes a great party game. However, if you're truly owned by deep gameplay you're missing out if you only stay on one platform. IMHO the number of notable games on each system is about 3.

btw: I was just yanking your chain!

Yeah - keeping the N64 on cartridges was kind of a mistake. Not only are the cost way higher than producing a CD, they're also very limited in storage space. That became especially clear when looking at conversions like WipeoutXL - they tried really hard to get the music right with the limited space they had, and did a good job, but it showed ... nothing's better than sound from a CD.
The cost for the games was also higher, because Nintendo charges quite a high percentage from developers to publish their games ...

For deep gameplay I'll stay where I've always been - my PC

thx pat !

Just got my Gamecube for my birthday yesterday, and am now going out to buy Super Monkey Ball, so I can stop spending all my time over at my friends house, hogging his Gamecube.

@Loki
damn right. if you look at the stuff that playstation brought out with just the 32 bit console, i cant begin to imagine what nintendo could have done with their 64 mashine. tsk tsk. that was a great mistake. o well

Now you're in trouble. I'm bored, at work, boss isn't around, and there is a thread to reply to about games. Longwinded reply ahead.

I have a PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube (along with many other consoles from years past).

Xbox has the greatest potential out of all of them, period. PS2 has the greatest developer support right now because it has such a huge install base. Gamecube has a loyal fan base and a handful of quality titles.

And this is where it comes down to a matter of personal taste and future prediction. If you already have a PS2 then you are pretty much set as far as choice of games goes. And even though both Xbox and Gamecube are better systems then the PS2, it is still a damn fine machine.

The Gamecube is pretty good. It is cheaper and more powerful then the PS2, but I still rather dislike the controllers compared to the PS2 and Xbox. It has some good games out for it now and a few more in the works. I really liked the Resident Evil remake and although Rogue Squadron felt a little flat to me, it was still very visually impressive. The new Metroid looks great and even though some people could care less, I'm really looking forward to some 4 player monster mayhem when the Godzilla game comes out for it. Other then that, it is a system that my wife will get more use out of then me. Although she is liking the Xbox more and more now that more games are coming out for it. I worry about Nintendo being forced to do the price drop game with Sony and Microsoft, but I think they will sell enough to stick around for a some time. I mean, it isn't like Gameboy systems aren't selling well (dispite the most horrendous glare problem I've ever experienced on a handheld). And that brings me to...

Xbox. Right now it is in the same position the PS2 was when it first came out, not much for it and waiting for more quality titles. I remember being at E3 2000 and checking out all the PS2 stuff and being saddened by the fact that the Dreamcast had a much better showing (Being a Sony fan and being forced to admit to a friend that fact was kinda rough for me. But then we watched the MGS2 trailer there and then I could say 'Ha! Yo Mamma punk!' But anyway...). It wasn't until a year or so later that developers stopped crying about it being hard to develope for and started cranking out some good stuff. The Xbox is almost in the same boat except the problem isn't being hard to develope for, it is the fact that publishers want PS2 titles so they can make more money since there are more PS2's out there then Xbox's. Halo is a great game, so is Munch's Oddysse (Although it isn't my kind of game I watch my wife play it. She loves that game.). Unless you are a fan of th DOA series like me, you could get away with just having DOA2: Hardcore for the PS2 as DOA3 is just a prettier version of it in the long run. But oh what a prettier version it is. Speaking of pretty, Splinter Cell looks stunning and I can't wait for that to come out. If it is like MGS2 without the constant convoluted story being thrown at you at every corner like they are saying, then I *need* that game like, yesterday. A couple more system sellers like that and publishers will soon change their toon and we may see a crapload of quality titles for the Xbox in the near future.

This is all, of course, my opinion on things. I'm certain others feel differently but...
I vote Xbox.

I just got a Y-splitter for my optical cables so I can have both my Xbox and PS2 hooked up to my surround sound. I only had my PS2 hooked up before (since we also use it as a DVD player). Now I've been going back and playing Halo and my other Xbox games in surround sound finally. The meaty low bass of a grenades exploding nearby followed by the trickling sound of gravel falling back down to the ground all around you, shots whizzing by your head, being able to know clearly by the direction of sound where enemies are firing from...what a difference sound makes for putting you in a game.

I guess I better go do some work now. *sigh*

I think that the XBox is the best "console" out there because it's just seems complete; built in hard drive, HDTV support, 5.1 sound, etc. etc. It's loaded! XD
I can only think of a couple things right now that are bad about it, one being the controller, it's not the best, but I don't find it bad to use. The second, having to buy the dvd remote separately.

I think the Playstation 2 has the best games and I want a PS2 just for that, there are so many games that I want on that system. ^_^

I really find the controller on the Gamecube to be comfortable and I like the big main button. XD ("Which is the shoot button?"
--"The big one!! Arrg!" ^_^)
Also the price on the Gamecube is better than the other systems...

MotoGP is very fun for the XBox! XD

I think I just want a PS2 right now for the games.
I prefer playing most video games on consoles and using the pc for all of my hobbies, but, it seems you already made up your mind. Hehe. ^_-
