This painting was done in Photoshop over the of this last week whenever I had some hours to spare. It started out as a simple speedpainting, which I decided to take a step further. As I went along I decided to turn it into a matte painting without the use of photos or photo derived brushes for practicing purposes and to see how far I could take it.
Below, I also posted some details and some of the steps to show my workflow.

I hope some of you "feel" the coastal breeze...

Thanks for watching.

hey man, nice painting!

I prefer no. 5 from above in the series of wip:s you showed. My eyes follow the coastline, hits the castle, continue way off to the horizon.. Somewhere around that right area I'd like to see something, like a ship or whatever. It would make an interesting composition I think?

When you up-scaled the castle and the cliffs it sits on, the sense of scale and distance gets a bit messed up (in my head that is, maybe not in others). I prefer when it is the size shown in the initial sketch.

If you choose to keep it the way it is, how about adding a character on the cliff to the right? That would tell the (my) eyes where to rest..

And you might want to make some areas softer and less defined, also to give the eyes a hint of where to look.

I feel the breeze!

I appreciate your willingness to change the image dramatically midway through. Usually I'd be too scared to change so much that far into a composition.

The crop with the verticle castle is very interesting, the scale really struck me when I saw the detail (when I saw the image for the first time my eyes were so drawn to the tide I didn't even notice there was a man-made structure in the background, for better or for worse Smile)

Almost forgot to say itI do like it; good work!
