This piece is quite personal as its a reinterpretation of something that happened to me when I was about 9 years old. I was with my family at Lisbons fun fair and we were at the Ghost Train ride. I insisted to go alone in the wagon, convinced I wouldnt be afraid of anything. As it turned out, as soon as the first puppet witch appeared I cowered inside the wagon, closed my eyes and ears, so I wouldnt hear the echoing laughter and screams (when I close my eyes I can still see her, ). I came out really scaredBut now I love everything horror and fantasy related.
This painting is also homage to Lisbons original fun fair the Feira Popular, which ceased to exist (political issues!). There was dirt, smoke, neon lights it all had a gritty underground feeling to it that really contributed to its magic. I wish I could go back to those times but I will always hold fond memories of it.
I was also inspired by the movies Big (the Zoltar machine), Ghostbusters 2 (Rays Occult Books) and Blade Runner.
I hope you like it and perhaps some of you will even identify with the image.

That's pretty creepy, I love it! How long did it take you, from idea over concept to finished image, if I may ask? This seems to have been on your mind for quite a while. _________________ CA SB|Flickr |

TJ Wright - Thanks...I think the level of "creepiness" depends on what each viewer can imagine. I believe your imagination is quite rich!
Kian - thanks, mate.
raybender - Thanks...Long Live Zoltar. When he lits up his eyes and his mouth opens wide...I think that moment is really cool!
Jabo - thanks...I think in total it took me about 15 hours, but it was done over 3 days with a lot of intervals, so I had a fresh look each time I started anew. And yes, you are quite right...this idea has been wandering in my mind for some months, now.
Max - thanks, man
AndreeWallin - thanks...glad you dropped by. I absolutely love your work! |

Hey Andreas!
There's so much stuff that's just spot on in this image that I don't know where to begin..
Let's just say that I was about to go to sleep and after seeing this I'm awake again because it looks so damn inspiring. Thanks, I guess _________________ www.TimoVihola.com
