hey rinthe, love the strokes in the last one! as for size i like to work usually 2000x1500
decided to try and work on one layer only, too confusing to use too many layers for a speedie

Rinthe> I usually start with a 300 dpi default A4 size, and i'll just increase or decrease the size as i go along.

Rinthe- I usually paint it at 200 pixels at the widest/tallest and paint everything with the 1 pixel brush...naw just kidding , around 1,200 at the extreme when I start, and near to 3,000 at the detailed ones...if I've ever painted a detailed one... makes me worry about my attention span, yikes!
A shitty painting of a toilet, see, the irony makes me an "artiste"

Just a question thrown into the air, and if someone wants to answer this I would appreciate it.
Lately I have been finding more and more of my favorite digital artists use photos in there paintings and I have never given this all to much thought, but now I am curious about this. I am not talking about mattepaintings but just using a photo to give a certain texture or something. Is this considered socially acceptable in the digital painting world and if so how do you go about using this technique. Do you throw it on your painting and paint over it or how does this work? If someone could shed some light on this, that would be great, thanks!
Sorry for a longer read. |

thsacid : Concept art is basically communicating an idea, most people confuse concept art sometimes with promotional illustrations.
You can communicate an idea by any means, but if you're using a photo , and it is bound to be shown to public; make sure you used your own photos. Copyrights and all can be a hassle.
You can use a photo for a number of things, texture, composition, inspiration. The way the photo is used and intergrated into the work is completely up to the artist: Mostly it is painted over.
Having a texture artist background; I used manipulate alot of photos together; make them seamless, mash them together, paint over them. _________________ "The starting point of all achievement is desire"
