Really nice work guys. Sorry I was a no show. My grandmother passed away and my mind was elsewhere. Looking forward to being in round 3 though. (I think that's how it works according to the chart?) |

Condolances, jmasho.
Med says we still survive for one more round!
Great job, everyone!
We've survived 2 Rounds, get ready for #3!
@Cicinimo, I picked yours as my favorite. The lighting, especially the muddy looking road, is simply breathtaking...One of my favorite pieces of yours, and that's saying a lot, because I like many of your works...This one looks almost neo-Classical. Truly lovely. _________________ Life is short. Expect nothing, enjoy everything.

Now, Dammit, Synnical. That is how this turns unfair, y'see?
Technically, since you didn't vote, you should automatically lose this round...Did you notice how the vote went for your entry? 13 to 1 in YOUR favor.
But you couldn't make the effort to vote...
Dude, Med's the one in charge, but if it were me, you'd lose this round, even though you tied for the most votes...
And, that would be fair.
People, what part of commit to enter do some of you not understand?
Part ONE was signing up.
Part TWO is MAKING ENTRIES UNTIL YOU ARE ELIMINATED.
Part THREE is VOTING. UNTIL A WINNER IS DECLARED.
The public is NOT VOTING on these, WE ARE! That means there is only a maximum number of votes (30) for this competition.
WE NEED YOU TO PARTICIPATE!!!
If you signed up for this, PLEASE! Honor your commitment, and at LEAST vote, even if you can't muster up enough to actually draw something...
I mean, c'mon! There were individuals drooling at not being able to be part of this, and you who are, can't be bothered to draw? CAN'T VOTE?
Tsk...
Of course, thanks to everyone who didn't draw and didn't vote (if they lose the round for that neglect), I'm not in the bottom 10 yet...I'm somewhere in the MIDDLE! You guys are making it too easy for me! Now it those damn winners would just adopt your habits, I could actually win this in a few more rounds...If I'd known it'd be this easy, I would have just entered stick men! lol! _________________ Life is short. Hideyoshi - Yours was still quite fantastic
Mr Sweetums-
What do you mean "lose" the round? As in they go in the losers bracket? What is the point of everyone else's vote then?
For example, if 10 people voted for Person A, and Person A does not vote, does that mean he should go to the losers bracket even though people chose his piece over the other?
It just can't work out that way and we can't do it that way, although there should be some kind of shameful punishment for not voting...ideas?
Here are the charts!
The theme has been decided upon, which will be posted tomorrow. This is your grace period, and you will have 7 days to complete your entry. This round is really important because people will be knocked out here!
Be prepared to start tomorrow folks ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

As always, thanks for all your hard work in organizing this thing and putting up with the whiners! Now, if I can just whine for a second...
7 days is not very much time. That is a more demanding than any freelance deadline I've seen. Why not just make it 3 weeks? Speed paintings have very limited appeal in a portfolio, and a lot of us on this board struggle with (and need practice at) finishing our work. It takes time and research to do so. _________________ artpad.org |

Sadly enough, Med. YES.
If you do not vote, and 29 people vote for you, too bad. You LOSE.
It is as if you did not enter the round at all.
It should not make a problem for the charts. BEFORE you do any alotting of placement, you FIRST see who is QUALIFIED (i.e. Entered and VOTED) to advance.
If someone enters, but does not vote, it is the same, as if they did not enter. DEFAULT.
All remaining votes are then tallied for the remaining competitors within that person's bracket. So, Synnical, even though he got 13 votes, LOSES.
He moves to the BOTTOM of his bracket. The winner of that bracket then becomes Androgs. Not complicated at ALL.
If there is more than one qualified entrant in the bracket left, all votes from the loser are equally distributed.
By NOT penalizing people who enter but don't vote, you are rewarding them for not fully participating. That is unfair.
Not voting is as bad as not submitting an entry. You would not advance someone who didn't submit a drawing, just because it might cause chart problems, would you?
I also agree with Cicinimo that 7 days is NOT enough time. 10 is still tight, but keeps this moving at a reasonable pace.
10 days to submit.
3 days to vote
1 day to tally votes and post chart. New theme within 24 hours, and the clock starts again.
Total: 2 weeks.
3 weeks is too damn long. There are still a few more rounds, which means at 3 weeks a few more MONTHS. Too long, too complex.
There are weekly comps that people manage to submit to. Speedpaints and detailed. 10 days is fair enough for a "simple" competition here, with no monies or great fame involved.
It would be nice if we can finish this thing before Christmas...
You are making this more complicated and hard than it needs to be. _________________ Life is short. Expect nothing, enjoy everything.

losing by default for not voting doesn't make sense to me either, med. A good punishment would be the participant faces vote deduction from his tally, so say, taking away three votes that have gone to him. He can still lose the round if the voting were close, but it will matter less if he's won the round convincingly. I think that's the fair way to do it. |

Everyone starts of with negative three (-3) points for voting tallies. Your vote will take away the (-3). [Good idea Synnical]
Going back to the first plan, 10 days will be the time span for getting your piece in.
End of discussion,
Cheers |

med - i agree with cicinimo and others that we need more time b/w deadlines. clearly many participants have life circumstances and are not meeting the deadline as it is. |

sweetums> that's enough. i'm sorry, but you're causing too much chaos. Ease up- don't blow things out of proportion. This was something everyone chose to participate in, and they ARE participating. It was meant to be fun and because everyone wanted to - not because they had to. PLEASE relax. There should have been no discussions on anything since the day this contest started- except for the discussion on deadlines being extended. I think these dragged out tauntings only brings down the respect of this forum. So let's end your rantings here- please. |

I would also appreciate a couple weekends to work. 18 credits is unforgiving and some weekends I just don't have lots of free time for art or anything. |

After talking with some people, I think 10 days should still be a decent amount of time. :0
Let's keep this a happy place alright? Bereft of anger or arguing please.
Anyway, sorry for the delay on starting round 3.
Sweetums came up with a really cool theme that I think would be really fun, I really like the idea of it;
Now there will be ten days to get something into this, so I hope everyone can find time to do what they can.
Sweetums, could you set the deadline for 10 days from tomorrow's date? ty
Good luck all, and remember that you have to vote or else I will find you and steal your wacom ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

No problem, Med.
Deadline Round 3: TUESDAY, Sept. 30, 12 NOON GMT
As I wrote Med when I suggested this,
Quote: |
Whatever you paint, you have to have one object from an obviously different time, be it the subject, or just something within the scene, like a vase on a table made out of an old boot...
This allows for time machines, archeology, fortune telling, all kinds of open-ended interpretations... |
A lot of different ways to approach this one. Have fun! _________________ Life is short. Expect nothing, enjoy everything.
