A film by Ridley Scott. A thriller involving a journalist and CIA and a whole bunch of terrorists. THAT will be pure magic, especially if the script is great and the pace is better than American Gangster.

Liked Man on fire by the other talented guy in that family, Tony Scott. Dakota Fanning gave the film a sincerity and sweetness that fit in perfectly and contrasted nicely against the gruesome violence.

A funny thing I heard was that Ridley approached Dakota and Denzel while they were sitting with eachother before a take. He asked Dakota if Denzel was ready (he was in a tranze preparing) She looked up from a Cartoon magazine and said without blinking that his name wasn't Denzel but Creasy.

Jabo: Yeah that would most definately would have worked better. The whole chase scene over the rooftops and ending by the train felt to me to sink the movie a bit. It missed it's goal a bit to portray the change in the bandit while still being entertaining. But still a great movie!

I didnt think he killed the crew in rage. And he was well aware of what they are and arent capable of. He was clever enough to only let people he could control into his crew. And the ease with which he disposed of them is only proof of that.

I got a feeling he bonded with Evan, maybe even came to respect his determination. That fondness is what made him run along side him escaping from his own crew under fire, even helping. And in the end giving himself up. Maybe he would have been more like Evan if his mother didn't abandon him?

But maybe thats the point of that whole setup - to draw out the interpretation from the viewer. Abstract and engaging enough to make you care. Reading up through your posts its not hard to tell what general point of view you come from in life. A form of projection maybe?

Yeah that was one of the best westerns of all time.

I really enjoyed that one! Some scenes were quite scary, especially with the cloverfield-like ego perspective

Thought about it a bit more now. It seems to me that what was happening inside russel crowes character didn't come across clearly enough. Had it been clearer to us it would have taken the movie up another notch. With a stronger climax in the end. It's not a GREAT script when the end is dependent on the inner change of a lead character, and you haven't even bothered connecting all the dots properly.

And a bit of topic (watched it on tv). Turkey must be the luckiest football nation I have ever seen. 3 remarkable saves from a certain defeat. Well they should have kudos for hanging in there. Thats fighting spirit!

I finally saw "The Happening".

I used to carry a torch for M Night Shyamalan, and I believed he could do no wrong. I defended "Lady In The Water" as a misunderstood fairytale for grownups.

I can't defend "The Happening".

It was UNWATCHABLE. HORRID. One of the WORST "thrillers" I've ever seen. "The Day After Tomorrow" had a more compelling message and gimmick. If I wasn't so sure it would turn around I would have walked out.

I still like Shammy as a film-maker, but this is the first time i honestly can't find anything to like.

Amen! Shammy played a cruel joke on the movie audience when he called a movie the happening and nothing happens. Like calling a real time documentary about insomnia "the adrenaline rush".

And what was Mark Wahlberg doing? That guy has noooo insight whatsoever how to portray a low key, gentle character. His voice had one tone during the whole movie. Which made for some unintentional comedy though.

But I got to say it was well filmed and acted (mostly) and had some clever promises that were never delivered upon. So you just walked out of the theatre feeling nothing. A blank page. Minimalistic storytelling gone overboard?

agreed, the new Batman is beyond awesome! it's dark, brutal, and relentless - a revelation of what summer blockbuster can be when done intelligently. Seeing Heath Ledger's Joker is worth the price of admission alone; it was a performance for the ages!

Skip batman and download the movie "night shift" from the early 80's with michael keaton instead. About two guys running the night shift on a morgue who suddenly get's the bright idea to make some money on the side by extending the morgue's services to include call girls (live ones).

Laugh out loud funny humour delivered with a lot of insight and irony.
I'm probably preaching for the beliver's if you are from the states, but a classic still eh?!

Batman was one of the best popcorn movies I've seen for ages. Just a shame I'm not 12 years old anymore. The concept itself feel's comparable to making a top notch movie about Popeye, I just can't relate to it fully. X-men tapped into something much stronger, them being supercool outcast's heh, storywise tighter. Batman vs Wolverine in a fight. Well it's like throwing christians to hungry lions in the colluseum. (mental note:Cool idea with sabretooth vs a lion)

What did you guys think about Tropic thunder? I found it amusing and some parts like the opening movie trailers and a few others were excellent. But it did lack something to bring it all together.

This one was awesome, manuscript and graphics really is something nice to watch. Also gotta love that blue little thing making weird noises and running around in the scenes.

I saw Babylon A.D. when it came out, or the day after- I forgot. Anyways, I was hooked on it mainly for the instrumental song used in the first trailer shown online(TV version had a different song later). The "Lux Aeterna" song is by far one of my favorite instrumental songs, I felt that it meshed with the trailer much better than the song used on TV.

Because of the song, I went to the theater already excited and interested, and I wasn't let down at all. I'm a big fan of the sci-fi and fantasy stuff, especially when it comes things similar to futuristic environments/ ideas. I really recommend it to anyone that likes that type of stuff too. Vin Diesel is a good actor too, in my opinion.

Also, is it weird that someone is somewhat ugly... yet really cute? The girl in the movie, Melanie Thiery(I think), looked a bit strange at times, but still really cute!

Iron Man btw, perhaps the best of those comic book movies, looking to the script and all. just all elements needed if you ask me, if you look at batman hulk hellboy or whatever there is always elements in them that makes it too much. I didn't feel this with Iron Man, worked out well.

Clone Wars, Guess I am one of those that liked it. Felt like you were in the scenes at some times in the clone wars, they gave thought to perspective a lot i think with clone wars.

X-Files "the new one", was the worst crap, what happened? I was a big fan from the beginning of the series and the previous movie was really good in my opinion. I watched for twenty minutes then I fASt forwarded til it became obvious it wasn't watchable at all. oh well.

If you want to widen your movie horizon I would recommend some good 70's movies like" the last run" with George c scott as a retired driver/robber who get sucked backed into the game. Or "killer elite" with James Caan as an agent in a secret branch of the CIA, gritty and funny movie by Sam Peckinpah back in high form one last time.
Damn who knew there was more to the 70's than old school porn??!

Any other golden oldies you guys recommend?
