It would be easier to give suggestions if you could show sketches that showed the final look you're going for - what kind of detailing you intend to add etc.

I don't know what you mean to do with this, so disregard anything I say as you see fit. As it is now, the whole scene is very bare. The scale is hard to read, because there are not that many elements you could recognize from daily life, and some elements - the big pipes - which look like regular plumbing, although you seem to mean them to be very large. The door is about the only thing that lets me figure out the scale here. You might want to drop the camera down just a bit, maybe tilt up a little to show the vertical structures more. The building could use some structural variety - right now it's like it was cast out of concrete in a single piece.Element seams, support beams, maybe more windows etc. Give it some rhythm, and also look into making the doors and windows you add not just holes cut into the concrete. Lastly, I can't really read what's going on with that display (I guess it's a display?) right next to the door. At first I thought it was a window, but looking at the structure of the building, I guess it can't be one? That whole area is difficult to understand... What's casting the irregular shadow on the wall, behind the display? Where's the red light coming in that area? Maybe you just don't have shadowcasting on on the light coming from that red sign.

Hey thanks for the comment, I haven't had time to check back recently or anything due to moving and other things...anyway I had a few hours to kill and I decided to do some more to this, added some more assets. Lots more to come soon.

I like the dark feel you are going for with the broken screen in the background but feel that shoudl be reflected in the textures.. While they all have a nitty feel to them by default they are all too clean I can't see a smudge, streak or bit of grime anywhere. The other thing I would say is the falloff for the bluelight in the upper section seems off or non-existant. I would also drop some of the specularity and the garbage can and the pipes. Maybe a noise bumpmap of sorts to those pipes or something to give them a grainy feel to their touch.

aaaaaand here I go changing things up completely, I wanted to add light to the scene to not hide any texture work or anything, obviously the lighting is far from done....Thanks for looking.

Last update is great. I can understand the scene much more now that you pulled the camera back.

Is the background color being reflected in the scene? I wasn't sure if you were using an HDRI for lighting or not.

I am using Mental Ray with Final Gather for the lighting. Thanks for the kind comment. I changed it around again lol, I think this one looks a lot better so far. Crits and comments welcome.

Thanks!

The lighting of the latest incarnation is HORRID!

You would have to be half blind to see so little detail with the light source shining so brightly from the side.

You were given the VERY helpful advice in the first comment to this thread of having sketches to show the final look you are going for.

It's called COMPOSITION.
You have not bothered with it from the get go, and you are still not bothering with it.

You are slapping down vague ideas, with no clear cut plan of what you are doing, beyond "an environment..." You've jumped ship entirely 3 times now, with each version looking worse than the last.

STOP. NOW.
THINK.
Pick interior/exterior
Pick a mood
Pick a time of day, a time of year
Pick a color scheme ~ Warm/cold, bright/dark, saturated,pastel
Pick a main directional light source, and be consistent with the illumination
PLAN a visual flow over the piece, have a FOCAL POINT!
Don't darken the overall gamma until the entire scene is complete

Stop bouncing around, settle down, plan and complete one scene.

You are completely right and I thank you for the honest and constructive feedback. The reason I have had to change it so much is is because of class parameters. Not to keep throwing excuses out there but I got a new LCD and the picture looked right on the screen, I should have looked on a different monitor so still my fault.

I will definitely get some solid results soon for all of you.

Thanks again.

Some more of an update, I am sticking with this one and finishing it. Once again, part of the reason of me bouncing around so much is because I am learning some of the more advanced settings in 3ds max 2008 and trying to implement them where needed,

Thanks for looking
