Just saw Lilo & Stitch with some of the guys from work yesterday, and was pleasantly surprised. Its really not a very Disney-ish film . . . reminded me more of "Iron Giant", but with a lot more laughs (there were only a couple gags I didn't giggle at).
Even if you hate Disney movies, check it out, and I think you'll be surprised. Additionally, the art direction is top-notch, with all of the backgrounds done in watercolor. The character design is much better than what they did for "Atlantis".
Holy shit, I enjoyed a Disney movie. |

You have a palindromic post number.
Every so often Disney will come out with a universally identifiable (read as, more stylistic) movie that I can enjoy. Out of 20 animated features or whatever, I can only really say I enjoyed the Jungle Book, The Aristocats, Robin Hood and the Emperor's New Groove.
Either way, I haven't seen any that can compare to the brilliance of quite a few Warner Bros. shorts. |

Yeah, I really like the style robin hood and aristocats were made in - too bad they never put the chanticleer out, but started on robin hood instead .. |

I thought it was great, but I always find animated films to be too short.
Great film, though. |

It looks sort of cute. Whatever happens, I'll wind up seeing it at some point. |

McDonalds and high quality used in the same breath..
It looks well animated but I wouldn't watch it for that in a theatre for an hour. |

Why don't you go occupy a few months and draw a picture of her admiring you? Just, you know, don't submit us to the torture of seeing it, as we really don't care. |

I'd love to see it, if he did it.
The fact remains that only MAYBE 1 or 2 individuals on this board draw on a level comparable to the folks that animate Disney toons.
Please, it is so easy to dog something, just to do it.
Personally, I admire the skill that goes into every Disney movie. So what if they are exaggerated? That's just personal taste.
Anyway, if anyone here actually believe they have the capacity to criticize a Disney movie - and have the skills to back their criticism, then by all means. Otherwise, shut the hell up and go suck on a turnip.

Personally I though Lilo and Stitch was a solid movie. They didn't push any animation limits though. Not that that's a bad thing, but as such its hard to pull any thing bad out of it. I mean generally when movies push animation they have a higher risk of screwing up (check out Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron for some prime examples of this).
I found Lilo & Stitch to be a great example of what the current upper end of animation looks like. A feature film shot largely on ones classically. Then taking advantage of CG and compositing for space ships. The toon shader was pretty nice too and it was good tos ee they didn't try to "hide" the CG.. I really hate it when movies do that (they normally fail wouldn't you say?)
I also loved the bulbous character designs. Recently Disney has been doing a lot of boxy characters (see Atlantis and Emperor's New Groove, and Tarzan to a certain extent [they had good reason to do it boxy with tarzan though]). SO seeing nice round ball characters was really nice, not to mention the fact that they're getting away from the stick figure women like in Hercules, they were scary!!
Anyway, I Like Lilo & Stitch, but I doubt it'll be remembered for it's advancements in animation, but rather it's irreverant attitude and it's appeal to an older audience. |

Does anyone else think Stitch looks a lot like Max from Steve Purcell's 'Sam and Max'? I was shocked the first time I saw the character design on the TV advert. Maybe it's just me. |
