Something is hogging my CPU resource. I observed my win2000's task manager, and found that the CPU keeps hitting 100% usage for no apparent reason. It's especially noticeable when I open images on websites that open up into another window(java). The computer would hang for sometimes up to 10 seconds or more, and THEN the new window will pop up.
Why does it just go off and hit 100% for no apparent reason? It didn't do this in my last install of win2000. I've already downloaded all the win2000 updates, so that wouldn't be it.
Grrr......
As you can see in this screencap, there aren't enough apps to hog up that much resource, but it's hitting the roof for some strange reason.
WHY why why?

IT'S KAZAA
I installed it the other day and noticed a massive performance hit.
Also, does the:
"Kazaa.exe 1044 97 2:13:38 16,056 K"
not give it away a bit?
e.g., at the moment you took the screenshot it was utilising 97% of the CPU resource. Also, switching priorities between different processing threads, in itself, also incurs an overhead on the processor.

Kazaa sometimes (depending on the release) runs spyware on your computer, and it also runs in the backround as long as you leave it open. |

Holy shit, that's sneaky. I was using Kazaa Lite! I upgraded it, and it turned into the REGULAR Kazaa. That pisses me off! (I didn't know the 2:13:38 was the actual CPU usage at the moment. I thought it was how long it's been accessing the resource, not how much. I'm a dork. I was never a techie kid. I only got into computers like, 3 years ago. )
Now I have to go and hunt down the LITE version--without all the crap.
You see, I upgraded to the newer version of lite, but even though the file was called Kazaa 1.7.1 Lite.exe, it's actually the REGULAR version!
Those bastards!

I dunno about kazaa. The fasttrack network is immense and valuable if used correctly.
Why shut yourself off?
(don't answer that :P) |

Lunatique you bum, you STILL didn't notice the CPU usage meter column? If you haven't noticed all tasks have 0% and kazaa 97% hehe
Such a techie kid you is.. and yes the size of your buttons is humongous. I guess it's that thing when teenagers try to be different and freaky.. whateva. |

Eheheh Idle means idle.. means nothing is going on. So 40% idle means 40% cpu power is FREE. One nice thing is you can sort things in order, for example i like to see which programs use most CPU or most RAM or space - it's nice.
Plus Lunatique's huge title bar brings tear to my eye |

wahahah! I'm such an ass. I didn't even see the CPU column right next to the CPU Time column! And I've been using NT for almost 3 years! This goes right up with the time I linked a page to my HD. . ..
I'm one of those guys that ONLY learns techie stuff when I HAVE to. I learned how to build my own computer, install everything, trouble shoot IRQ conflicts in the first month I bought a computer because I had a Turtle Beach Pinnacle Studio card that just won't get along with my other installed components. I learned a lot from that experience though-- from how to flash your bios, to tweaking the registry, to doing a COMPLETE format of your HD(not the typical formating which only takes 10 minutes) for absolute safety that takes hours and hours and hours..etc etc.
I think if I spent the time and read through a website like tomshardware, I'll get pretty good at this techie shit. Most of the time I just don't pay enough attention, since I've got my mind on my art shit instead.
Penny Arcade is like comedic crack. I can't get enough of it. www.penny-arcade.com
And about the GIGANTIC title/scroll bar: AT 1600x 1200, my clumsy paws need bigger things to grab.
about the ugly desktop colors- I wanted to emulate Max 4's charcoal color scheme, as it looks pretty cool and easy on the eyes for doing artwork.
Check out how pretty it looks in PS(or incredibly annoying for some of you):
