Some time ago I finished a game script, called "HOPE". I really did'nt have any time presenting it to my publisher, as I had two other scripts going at the time, and a lot of things going on my dayjob, so finished yes, but nothing more.
The other day, I read it again, and then it struck me... why not just make it in Unity, which I've come to learn a bit the last few months.
Then I could perhaps learn something in the proces too.
My name is Jesper Johansen, and work in northern Denmark primarily with TV-advertising in Maya. Previously I spent 5 years at LEGO working with all aspects of 3d, primarily the Bionicle theme. I hold an animation certificate from Alias|Wavefront and a regular 2D Graphics degree.
I have published two books in Denmark, with a third on it's way.
Well, I really don't know if there's any interest in what I'm about to propose, but I think the script is too good to disappear in the vast amounts of paperstacks around my table.
Anyone interested in creating a game on shares in your free time? Meaning, everybody involved will own a share of the final product (if any). Much more on this on the website.
It will be a fun community on the side to learn aspects of the industry and the development proces too, and deal with matter over theory.
We start with creating the intro and level1 before we present the stuff to game-distributors. If no one will buy it, what is lost? We have gained a lot of new friends and connections.
I put together a quick website for the project, which I hope you will look through, and please give me your thoughts on this.

Looking at the site, I'd say that you're being very optimistic about the amount of work needed to complete even one level of a game that shows promise enough to interest publishers.
Even with a crew of 10-20 full-time, professional people it would easily take six months to do "something that looks good", and that would still be far from anything that's going to get signed by a major publisher. You also need businessmen to sell the project regardless of the code and art talent on the team.
I'm not saying this can't be done, but there's too many people out there who think they can pull this off because they have no clue about how difficult it is to get funding for a project. Small indie games are probably different but aren't likely to make you much money, and you may need to self-publish them.
Good luck! |

sadly I'm inclined to agree with Mikko...as this this kinda thing is something I've always wanted to be a part of, but in reality how easy would it be?...I already have my 9-6 job but if I ever won the lottery I certainly pull a bunch of you together for something of a similar nature....
I applaud your desire to create thou! Best of Luck to you! _________________ Life is all dynamics... |

Update 19/9:
Lead 3D-animator: Sudhir Sharma
Gamescript done. Concept art is in progress.
Still looking for talented people to join!
Thank you for your replies and interest in the project. I'm sorry I have'nt been able to convince you this project will work.
However, looking at the project from inside, I don't think the plan and project is unrealistic at all. We already have a lot of very skilled and experienced people on board - besides my self who have done several AAA games in the past - who all agree that this is doable. I think you may have overseen the fact, that we're trying to assemble 50-70 people to complete only intro and level1 within the timeframe.
We don't just let anybody in, as we need some assurance the game "can look that good".
As for the business side of it all, yes, we will have to include some at a later point, but right here and now we have to be sure there will be a product at all to sell.
There are a lot of people out there trying to do just this, because they have big dreams of the ultimate game, and yes, most tend to overlook the major adminstrative tasks in a given project. This is definitely not the case with HOPE! All leads have a lot of experience from the industry, and is well aware of all those tidbits surrounding the project.
First and foremost, though, HOPE is about fun. As a gamedeveloper, I love what I'm doing, and spend a lot of time commuting in various forums. In HOPE I can commute and develop at the same time, with an even greater devotion. The love for development should drive us all. HOPE may not be published at all, but I do not consider the time I spend on the project and people involved for wasted at all.
No one has said it will be easy, not at all. I did'nt aim for anything to sound easy. But on the other side I'm not aiming for making things sound harder than reality either.
Thank you, we may need luck... and HOPE - but at this point we need people |

Why do all of you guys try to talk them out of it? It's not like every ambitious project is a dud. And although I don't think that this game has anything special to it that wasn't done in previous games, and I wouldn't play it from a story standpoint either, it's good to hear someone's trying. _________________ CA SB|Flickr |
