UGH! I HATED this movie. What a fantastical LETDOWN. In my opinion, wait till it's released on DVD before even troubling with it.

The first 15 - 20 minutes was following the beautiful late 20 / early 30 something people and their personal problems ("She did what? Slept with who? You're hot!" Puke!). I was actually sitting there looking at my watch wondering WTF? When all hell eventually breaks loose and we finally see what this damn monster looks like (front legs or arms look like the rear legs of a horse, hoofed even - yes - hoofed. Stupid looking), the vast majority of the film follows the beautiful people crying, running, whining, etc etc etc; I'd say this movie is 3/4s crying, running, whining, etc and 1/4 WHAT THE F**K is that thing??? Cool! Destroy New York City! Yeah!

BUT folks . . . scenes like that, while extraordinarily impressive from a visual FX standpoint, are few and far between. Sparse. Lacking.

Oh yeah - I failed to mention that the ENTIRE film is from the perspective of a guy with a video camera filming his friends . . . crying, running, whining, so if a shakey "I'm gonna puke" cam is your thing for 1 hour and 40 minutes of BS, then goferit! I dunno about you, but if faced with extreme death from a hoofed behemoth, I'd be hauling ass as fast as I could in the other direction and not be bothered with filming anything.

I've never felt so compelled to walk out of a theater and ask for my money back. Seriously.

Crap. Pure crap, IMHO.

I've only seen the trailer for Cloverfield, and I'm 100% sure the film totally matches your description.

Looks like another 'WTF is going on?'-style creation for the fans of Lost.

The question I always think is "why the hell should I CARE what's going on since the makers don't clearly know themselves" Smile

Although ignoring your attack on LOST (aka best TV show in decades), I have to agree with you. The trailer looked interesting, but I found out it was only because it was something new, not because I want to watch the movie. I won't pay for it.

Yeah and Harry Knowles of AintitCool.com gushed all over it, but Harry LOVES JJ Abrams and would gladly ram his nose up the man's ass if givern the chance (and a host of other directers too).

I just don't get it.

The fact that NOTHING happened in this film for nearly a full 20 minutes just ain't right. Come on! Boring and a waste of film, imo.

i loved it! very fresh and exciting IMO. At all times I was on the edge of my seat Very Happy

i admit some of the dialogue was just weak but i think in the end the good outweighs the bad which allowed me to let go of such things.

I didn't mind the party time at the beginning. You have to get to know the main characters sometime or you won't give a crap about them.

I thought it was good, maybe not "very good". A solid B/B+. Definitely one of the better disaster movies I've ever seen.

What I didn't like:

The fact that Rob's party was apparently only attended by very attractive people.

Beth is near death and impaled on a piece of steel re-bar, but she's cool to run for it.

Everything after the crash was very "Hollywood": Creature reveal out of nowhere (was it hiding behind a tree?!?), the sappy "we're gonna die, i love you".

Something interesting I heard (but did not see)- If you watch the background at the very end when Rob and Beth are at Coney Island, you can see something fall from the sky into the water.

Same here.

You know what? I wish they would have shown the monster even less. Though the FX were great ,no problem on that. But when you show something too much, you lose the sense of mystery, and you're always disappointed.

Hmm. I think it wasn't so bad actually. Way better than Godzilla. I also think they could have shown even less of this gigantic,...thing. It could have been more serious without the joking inbetween. Whining and screaming people seem to be a normal thing tho,....or,..should they be happy? Very Happy
There still was this blockbuster flair going on,...but c'mon people, that's what everyone want's to see anyway. They have to sell it right? Eventough I would be more happy if they would leave out some effects and save the money for good editing and some depth. The vfx were top notch I have to say. Some awesome scenes. Great soundeffects. Weird was this 9/11 flair going on. I am glad there was no happy end. One of the better Monster Movies....

I was let down by this movie, with the first person crazy camera shit things need to be realistic on a personal level-and when a girl is impaled on rebar and then survives a helicopter crash that soldiers don't only to run from a gears of war monster while a dooshy guy screams "ROB" alot- dammit. Also the characters were idiot NY party types, which for a nerd movie that was a mistake, does the department of defense care about their shitty party scene or something?

when the monster first attacked + effects were awesome though.

fav part: the little creatures falling off the big creature and attacking soldiers on the TV.
okay movie. im glad they showed the monster- if they hadn't, i would have been kinda pissed. lilly girl had the most horrible of acting, and yes, even being able to move your arm around fully after your whole left ribcage has been impaled, was annoying.
