I'm planning on buying a Macbook Pro and of course there is a choice between Matte and Glossy screens. I am going to be using it for painting when i'm away from home and when the desktop (which is kinda slow and belongs to my parents) is not available, eventually I'm going to try getting a large screen i can hook the Macbook up to and use it as my own personal desktop. But anyway, for now:
My question is, for a digital artist using painter and photoshop, which is better matte or glossy? I know the pros/cons when it comes to glare, but setting that aside, what about color accuracy and such?
Thanks for the help. |

glossy is.. glossy, put it in a bright room and you'll be searching for a dark corner.. |

If you get really close to a matte-finish screen, you'll sometimes see "color noise", caused by the refraction of the microtexture on the anti-glare coating.
You really have to be right up on the screen to see it though. From a distance it averages out. Colorimeters don't have any problem calibrating around it.
Some people think glossy screens have better saturation and contrast, but I think they're comparing them with matte screens that are in brightly-lit rooms. In a darker, studio environment, I don't think there's much of a difference. The panel matters more than the finish. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

mmmkay, thanks. soo, there isnt a better choice? Glossy certainly looks better in a normal room to me, but i just dont know how bothered i'd be by the glare.
Any other ideas? |

Don't get glossy!
Who wants to peer through reflections to see their screen? |

Personally I don't like the matte look. Hovever the glossy look of notebooks is a little extreme. CRT screens are perfect imho. A mixture of both maybe? For a notebook mate would be better imho because it isn't really a working setup. You use it at many different palces and never can be sure about the lighting conditions. If you buy a screen for a desctop pc tho you can get rid of annoying lightsources anyway and therefore glossy might be a better solution. |

I think its just personal taste. And depends on where u gonna use ur laptop. If at home next to a window/university with many ligghts etc. = no glossy cuz u will always have reflections. _________________ quit pro quo |
