My old Graphire3 broke, so I bought an Intuos3. It's just a 4x6, but what a dramatic difference! I'm very happy with this new tablet. I've been following you all while waiting for my tablet to arrive. After lots of weeks of patience, it's here. Yay, happiness!

Yuk - Right back at you mate Smile
Destinatus - Thanks Smile I love your colors!
Sampster - Thanks! I've tried to keep the portraits under an hour and a half, which is very fast for me.
Mattyuk - I use "Flat Smeary oils" and I play around with the feature a lot. I also scale the brush up and down a lot. Painter's a tall horse to mount, but with a little oomph, its a fine horse to ride Smile
Freebooter - Oooh
Blinck - Great Lighiting and depth

tonight's effort ~ an hour 15

Tried an environment... originally the idea came from a screenshot from the DVD series 'planet earth'

I was going for something sparth-esque, obviously I was pretty far off from that. ANy advice on how to pull off more convincing metals and structures?

everyone is kickin'... but freebooter and cicinimo, gah!

Ok.. i'm still struggling with this one, still WIP though. crits are always welcome however. focus right now is anatomy and posture.. i'm afraid it might get boring to look at though..

Cicinimo - Shocked
Freebooter - Shocked
Blinck - Again, really kickass lighting and depth

notic - The legs need to be longer, and the lower legs a tad thicker - the hips look too large, you might try shaving alittle bit off the sides.

Another portrait, this is fun!

Loving those head studies Zombat! I don't know if you're after crits, but I think you could try for a wider range of brushwork on them. The painterly aspects are nice, but the kind of strokes you're making are very consistent in size and shape. A more varied surface could be nice. Thats a minor issue of taste though, they're really nice!

Cicinimo - Many thanks!! Crits always welcome, especially from you Smile I'm rather new to painter, but will definitely try to vary things up. Now that I look back on a couple of the portraits, I agree the brush sizes might be changed up a little more - I've been experimenting with the feature tool ... for the moment "flat smeary oils" seems to be nice for me but as most of my other work utilizes multiple media and textures, I'll be sure to push my limits !

... right after this one (a request of a friend):
