Hello again!
It's been loong time since I had time to work on this project.
I haven't actually done anything new, it's just another light test I wanted to do to keep my self inspired with this.
I'm currently working on the story, and I'll keep updating this fellow too.

At the moment, I'm not very happy with the overall lighting and look, but it will do for now.
Blaaah

I felt like being in an artistic dead end. I wasn't very happy with this character. The design wasn't just strong enough, so it would've looked lame in the final frame.
So..
I redisigned him. NOW he fits in the story as the Seaking, and has much better design. Luckily I actually changed him so little, that I don't have to make so many changes to the older version of him. Cool

Here's the new SeaKing!

Ok, today I got some time to continue this project.
I remodelled the Sea King. He looked too young in the concept so I made his face a bit longer to make him look older.

Next I will do some clothing for him.
Heres the screenshot. (Those lines in his head will work as a guide to his hair later on.)

I love the sculpture, but will it assist you in your overall workflow? Seems like you already have the concept worked out fairly well... or was it just for fun? Either way, nice work

Thanks for the comments dudes and dudettes.

I had to create a skin shader, so I could actually continue with texturing that sea king creature.

I used a 3D scanned head for this skin shader research. The head can be downloaded from Paul Debevecs site http://gl.ict.usc.edu/Research/FaceScanning/
Skin shader was made with XSI fast skin shader. Took me weeks to get it really working in all lighting sitiuations and from all angles.

Nice work Petri.J

I really enjoy how you put up your sketches to show the work process, far too many times have I seen people just jump right into something without doing any research or proper planning.

Keep it up bro!

Talking about planning, heres a concept of his clothes.
Any critique on this is advisable. Cool
