I'm totally stoked for it. Looks like a good old-fashioned monster movie. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

The directors are members at cgtalk. They were just running a small special effects studio for years and then somehow got the gig to direct this sequel. This is the first time I've seen someone go from "average forum member" to "Hollywood blockbuster feature director." Of course, we won't see posts from them much now, for both political reasons and not-so-political reasons that come with becoming big film directors. |

Well, nice. The downside I see in this is that I've never seen a particularly good movie from a director who's been an SFX-guy before. Have you? _________________ CA SB|Flickr |

It's not going to be art. It's going to be monsters eating people's faces off.
And I'm down with that. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

Well, that wouldn't be a problem if there wasn't "Alien" and "Predator" mentioned in the title....

alien is boring after the first couple of watches, what made the film was the suspense of not knowing what was going to happen, once thats out the way, its not that watchable anymore (prefer Aliens) |

Alien boring?! Alien is a work of art which is why it is depressing what the films have descended into. |

Indeed! The thing I really like about Scott's vision for Alien was that the film has a very timeless feel. I was recently watching it at Halloween with my daughter and a friend of hers, and one of them commented on how come we didn't see it in the theater. I explained the movie was nearly 30 years old - can you believe that? It really is a welll done and visualized film. I'll always hold Alien in the highest regard; it's really my favorite of the series with Aliens in close second. As for the latter films, they were ok except I thought the 4th was ridiculous. _________________ - Tom Carter

B0b: Hah, well... I love Alien, and I love every single film in the series (1-4, of course). I can find a reason for watching them in any one of them. It's the sheer vision of the first, the action in the second (although I like it least), the design in the third, and the french-ness and cinematography in the fourth. Bad thing is, I don't find a reason to watch either AVP or AVP2
iandredd: Agreed, and I actually still get the creeps when the alien grabs for Ripley in the last scenes.
Gort: Hah, nice story about your daughter's friends. Too bad that real Sci-Fi is no more in modern movies. _________________ CA SB|Flickr |
