mattyuk: spend some time on one image. At the moment you're practicing your mistakes.

Get the proportions right. Is the length of the nose right? Is the position of the mouth right? This is digital so it's easy to draw a selection around a whole bit and move it around, and scale it a bit, until it's better. Then keep doing that until it's right.

yes, I'm very thankfull this particular forum for a very simple lesson: sometimes it makes sense to forget about speed in speedpainting

I would just like to show how Ive progressed. The first pic is from about 5 months ago from when I first purchased my Wacom (I know, seems a slow progression but with work, my time has been limited). The second one is from today. I really think Ive turned a corner, Im seeing values, colour placement and the form, but some areas need a lot of work.

mattyuk >> Good determination !! I think you have to try to paint with an empty mind. When you paint a eye, don't think about "painting an eye". Focus you eye on shapes and values, not on concret elements. Try to keep an objectiv eye on your entire picture. If you are focusing yourself on a holenose or something else, you can be sure the proportions will be weird Smile For me, it's the main problems i'm training for. ... Not sure i'm clear ... Confused

Paintover/update of my last speedy ...

Yeah I totally get you. Thanks again. Im just, as I said, getting into the routine of doing it all in one rather than taking ages at a time to do the nose, mouth individually. Building up the blocks, or making the foundations from the outset. I work better because of that.

And your pic is great, really cool lighting.

Wow ^^ Octavian!!

My PS has been crashing a lot lately, then I found it was due to some Barbeiri brushes I downloaded.
