Vyle, FallDamage, daryl - Inspiring!!

My painting/color skills are very poor, so I'm trying to get into doing speedpaints/color-studies on a regular basis. Here's a couple painted from the movie Alien, and another that's just from a portrait photo.

I don't know whom to give the props to, you or Ridley Scott (or me as an ber-Alien fan Wink ), but I recognized Ripley even though she doesn't really look like her... Cool images. The second one lacks a plausible orange lightsource, though.

Thanks skrubbles I'm an alien fan like jabo, and I picked up on it right away too.

Real quickly for today. Pretty much took a few spare minutes and go nuts. There's a guy in there somewhere, as indicated by a blob on two stilts.

still figuring out midtone workings, I have been tending toward detail before the most extreme values have been set and it causes problems for me. False values kill, tomorrow maybe ill learn more...

Lemur, i think you're doing really good! you've improved a lot lately.. are you doing studies as well, or mostly from imagination? just curious

thanks notic! Lately its been from imagination, but im starting to run into dead ends- many more studies would definitely be beneficial, after enough realistic painting it becomes much more natural to take care of(and avoid altogether) wonky drawing/lighting mistakes in the made up stuff. Setting up the piece in general will become easier im sure, but I don't really know cause I haven't done my tons of studies...yet

Gyah, been busy with work putting a lot of overtime in. Which certainly leaves little time to paint, but hey, it certainly makes it easier to pay for Revelations. Who all is heading up this way for it? Still trying to decide whether or not I want to get or split a hotel room I live about 15-20 minutes away as it is, but frankly it would be really convenient to have my workstation immediately available to upload the day's work off my tablet.

Random ship/vehicle spawn really need to work on the form language and flow of vehicles. Anyone got any good recommendations for reference material or instructionals in that respect?

Life drawing seminar on Tuesday. Only had time for the last two poses, and I would have liked to work on hands and feet a bit more, but the model generally kept his feet under the sheet.

[ediy] Btw Lemur, the last one you posted looks real nice. I was watching the screen from a lay back position and noticed that it looks extremely nice. Wink
