[Sumaleth]

There was a film that I saw when I was young, in the late 70s or early 80s, which might or might not have been a Disney film, and I'm trying to find the name of it

I remember that there were two young kids who had to go on a ship to meet their dad.

Later there was a massive flood, and the protagonists had to climb into a massive tree. There were other things riding out the flood in the tree too: I think there was a snake, and there might have been a panther or a cougar.

The tree eventually caught fire, but I don't remember how they escaped.

Later in the film they were captured by some (stereotyped) savages, who locked them in a hut that was on the edge of a massive ravine. Already in the hut was the man that the protagonists were looking for. He had been their prisoner for many years, and was now a bit eccentric.

He had been growing his hair long all that time, and kept plucking hairs to make a rope that was long enough to lower him the ~1 mile to the bottom of the ravine. They all used the rope to escape the hut.

That's all that I remember. It had a sort of creepy, dark-fantasy sort of feel.

Anyone know the film?

Never saw it,,, but did a google with several keywords and IMDb which guaranteed I'd just get info about films...
