Hi guys. Long time no see. Or rather no words, 'cause I have shurely seen what you have been up to.
Here's some stuff that you might have seen elsewhere. Some new, some old. Some speeds some hours worth:
Some concepts I did for Kane & Lynch: Dean Men. A LONG time ago
And here's some OLD stuff, back from the school days...3 years old.
Sorry for the ones you have seen before....

Woah Sukhoi. I am impressed. You have some top notch work here. Really nice!
The paintings for Kane n Lynch are incredible. Awesome lighting! Great detail and composition.
These old stuff - images, are they a 2d/3d combo?
Keep up the great work! |

hey man
I think your environments are top notch, especially such as the ones for kane and lynch. you need to teach me the workflow for such clean enviros! any tips? (I'm more for a go crazy all over the place but then I'm sure to be doing the same things a shitload of times).
Anyways to sum it up, the kane and lynch ones along with your school ones I find the most interesting and impressive. _________________ homepage:blog |

Max, thanks. Glad you like the KL ones. The old ones are done ontop of a 3d box. But all the soft shadows and stuff is painted. Box is for perspective only. Some of the KL ones are made atop screenshots from MAX aswell.
Daryl: Thanks. Regarding the workflow. Back in the day I did it like this. Create the shape of the location, like a box for a room or a screenshot for more complicated scenes. Then I paint in the rough soft shadows, and all the soft light bounce. Like the scene is lit, but in a very general way. remeniscint of a textureless global illumination render. Then I paint in all the details, like carpets, furniture, screens and whatnot. Giving them soft shadows as well to make shure they are a part of the scene. Then I paint in all the direct sunlight and other strong light sources. Shadows and bounces are then changed to accomodate this new light. This way of methodically going though step makes it fairly easy to do complicated scenes without getting lost.
The downside this tight method is that you loose some of the crazy, random ideas that would come up during a more scetchy approach.
But if you do some conceptualizing beforehand where you act a fool, and then use the ideas you get before you start the tight process, you could get the best of both worlds.
Bummer that it's the old ones you guys like the most..but hey...
Suma: thanks mate!

nah man, the soldier.jpg for example rocks my socks of. I love the design!
You always have some incredible lighting going on. Also in other images on your website. Very surralistic yet technically correct lighting with crazy colors. Very cool
why don't you want to work for games actually? (just took a glance at your bio) |

Oh but I do Max, I work at IO Interactive. The reason why I write that is because I can't do work for "competing Companies" as pr. contract. |

First painting is my definite favourite, it has great Black Rain & Blade Runner feel to it. I agree with Max about soldier.jpg and also really cool idea to show off the lighting with the birds.
Floor looks tasty in KL2.jpg, and the patterns on the pillars is eye-catching, overall very nice geometric shapes - it's kinda like Tyrell's office in BD combined with Mullins' Tao Feng environments.
Oh and thanks for the tips on environment painting, those will come in handy!
Contrary to gLitterbug I gotta give extra point for Skeletor, it's the first depiction of him that actually scares me (just in time for sleep)

Fruity: Glad you like 'em. Soething a little more experimental. I've never tagged IRL, but I imitate as best I can
Glitter: PENISKELETOR!!! What about SHEMAN then?
Bg: Thanks mate. The red pillar envorironment is a clear cut Tyrell meets ragga headquaters from Predator2
Oh as if you need environment tips from me. I clearly remeber you giving me some excellent environmental pointers way back in the day....2001 I believe.
Thanks again.

I just love the first pic
How the colors variete in those windows, how cars fade in the background and still the backlights are glowing.
That painting is just brilliant!
One thing bothers me though, why is that Gazith-sign upside down? |

The naked Skeletor disturbs me... what goes through your brain you deviant... :p
As said before, the Kane and Lynch ones are awesome. That's one game I am completely stoked about. (aside: the official website for Kane and lynch is absolutely awesome!!!) |

Thanks guys. And sorry to revive this.....
Petri.: Some remains of some photo collage grit I painted on top of. Only the sign and some of the blue light remains though. Yeah, and some light in the far distance on the left. I'm not really a purist when it comes to painting on top of my old pictures mashed up or photo collage grit.
Affected: Erh, I dunno. Don't know who that is. I don't know art history AT ALL!
