MTW, Iagree with the first answer you received, but I never found the result good enough.
better :
first you got to do in an alfa layer the depth map in B&W ie what is close and what is far (can be a soimple gradient). Then in
go filter>blur>lens blur
lens blur, depth of field
You indicate which is your depth map (mask, alpha, transparency...
you indicate which depth is what ie wich gray level should be sharp
iris is to emulate the iris aperture of a camera.
etc, options are extensive but not so important..
Play !!
PS krishnamurti makes it luminous for you.
