I have to say, Dell is a great company. My daughter's laptop went totally dead last Sunday. Would not boot at all. After spending some time on the phone Monday afternoon with Dell support, it was clear the motherboard had died... This was about 5:00 pm. At around 7:00pm they had a DHL guy at my door to pick up the computer. He brought the box and packed it. AS indicated, this was Monday...The service center is in Tennessee. Wednesday, early afternoon, DHL delivered the fixed laptop back to my home... That's some service.
I've been buying Dells for 15 years and have only had the best service and tech support from them. Great company. _________________ HonePie.com

That's amazing- A company that supports it's product. Becoming quite a rarity nowadays. |

Ive had a good experience with Dell support also.
I had a CDRW drive on my new machine.
On my old machine I was in the habit of just leaving the disk in when I turned off the machine, since it was for backing up my files. Like using it as another hard drive. This worked just fine for years, just drag and drop.
On the new machine, with the new CDRW, this worked for about 1 month then the drive stopped working properly, it would take 5 minutes to read the directory etc...
It got replaced with no fuss, a guy came to my house.
Then of course it happened again.
They replaced it again.
They have no idea why it was doing that. I just wonder why old tech can handle what I was doing but new tech is more fragile.
Then I started using a USB flash stick to back up my files. I havent touched the CDRW drive since. So I'm sure it works just fine as long as I dont use it ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

One of my first Dell service experiences was in the early '90s. I lived in Danbury, CT in an area that was prone to getting struck by lightning, for some reason. Well... lightning struck and blew out my motherboard. I called Dell, they arranged to have the box sent to their repair station... It was back within a week, no charge. Then, about a week later, another lightning, mother board catastrophe. I called Dell... They said no problem... I sent it back, and they replaced the motherboard again, no charge... I've been a Dell customer ever since. _________________ HonePie.com

I suspect they would not do it today, but back then they were establishing their service reputation... It worked... and still is... _________________ HonePie.com

Dell in Australia are so shit when it comes to servicing. My sisters laptop needed a new fan due to overheating. The laptop came back a month later, fucking covered in dust with white grease finger marks all over the screen (not just natural skin oil) and the benchmarking and testing tools were still installed on the system. The fan fucked up again about 6 months later. |

I was working on a big website 2 years ago and ordered a host-package from 1&1 because I had always been happy with their service. Shame on me, I ordered an ASP package for my PHP scripts. When I discovered all my scripts didn't work, I gave them a call (one call, not more) and they changed the contract without paperwork overnight without charge. That's why I've been with 1&1 for over 6 years now. Most people tend to hate them, I dunno why.
Dell: The power-supply on my new Dell Dimension crashed after a lightning and I had to finish an important job. I called them, but unfortunately it was the day George Bush visited the Rhine-area (where I live). Duct covers had to be welded close, people were told not to leave their houses for the time of his visit and three of the main highways were closed down for two days. But still, they managed to send a technician after he was gone. Long story cut short, he changed the mainboard, not the power-supply, and another short circuit killed the newly installed mainboard the next day. I had to send it in to have it repaired. Not too happy with Dell anyway. My computer worked flawlessy for half a year, but since then it's just slow and sounds like a starting jet. Sooo... I bought a MacBook yesterday. No more PCs ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) _________________ CA SB|Flickr |

I have a sleeping bag draped over the back of my machine. I leave some space to the side for the air to get out. It cuts the noise by 50%. |
