So I just got a Canon DigitalRebel XTi, my first digital camera. It was delivered this morning. I picked up the body and while tilting it I heard a rattling sound, like a loose part. So I went to Staples since I knew they had one on display. It had the same sound. So I'm guessing this is normal.
If you have one and hear that sound let me know, it will help ease my paranoid brain
Before you ask, I'm just using the kit lense.
I'll be using it to take pictures of houses that I measure for drawing additions in Autocad. The pictures help with drawing the exterior elevations. I'll also be using it to grab textures for 3d model work in Lightwave.
My last camera is a Nikon EM from 1980. |

It sounds like its from the top half/ center/ front. Sort of near the eyepiece/flash
As you tilt the camera, even slowly, front to back. there is a clicking sound. Like a loose flap of plastic on plastic.
You get a similar sound side to side, but the volume is much less.
Its not near the battery, Since it was openable I checked there first, looking for loose stuff. |

Yeah thats exactly the kind of thing that drives me nuts too
But... I just figured out what it is.
Its the metal slotted bracket on the popup flash. They are a bit loose so that it moves freely, and they make that sound when you tilt the camera.
So now that I know, I'm not worried about it anymore |

you don't actually notice it in normal operation of the camera.. has to be shaken (well on my canon it does) to actually hear it.. |
