OMG. Okay I'm not joking about this guy because if someone came up with a spider and wanted to throw it on my hand, I'd scream the same way. Then again, I'm not a 200 pound guy! Very Happy

well. I think they are incredibly beautiful. And a great inspiration for creature designs and stuff. I find them fascinating. But if one of these bastards crawls around in my bed I perish ,. /

You should have other beautiful creatures crawling around in your bed. The fear of spiders will be vanished!

I'm one of those guys who squirm when it comes to insects (not all, just the icky ones like spiders, cockroaches, centipedes..etc), and it's embarrassing because my wife is absolutely fearless when it comes to that stuff. I'm the one screaming like a little girl when I see one and my wife will come to the rescue--with BARE HANDS, touching those disgusting and possibly poisonous abominations of nature. She would even crush them with her bare hand, and that absolutely freaks me out. I would make her scrub her hands with soap afterwards. Now she knows not to do it since it freaks me out so much--I make her pull out a sheet of tissue or use her slippers when doing any insect killing.

I'm with you, Lun. I'll handle any reptile, mammal, fish, or other, but insects and arachnids give me the heebie-jeebies. I think it's the unpredictability of them. Insects have little or no "thought", they are just creepy little hard-wired robots that will bite the shit out of you when you least suspect it.

awww the poor little creatures are way more afraid of you than you are of them.. and for a good reason, a peaceful human becomes a bloodthirsty killer when insects are around Confused

Roaches freak me out because I'm from the sticks, and I'd never seen one of them until I moved here to Atlanta a few years ago.

Spiders, scorpions, moths, centipedes ... none of those bother me ... but cockroaches trigger some kind of primal "KILL IT MAKE IT DIE" instinct in me.

I welcome house centipedes into my apartment, because they are apparently voracious hunters of roaches. Go get 'em, my many-legged legion.

A couple stories:

I used to hang all my laundry out to dry on the fence at my old house in Sacramento. Once when I went to put on a shirt, it was a little dusty so I turned in over and shook it out. Out dropped a freaking six-inch long centipede. I didn't scream like a little girl, but I came close. I put a big tupperware bowl over it, sliiped the top underneath it upside-down, and shook the fucker till it didn't move anyore.

At the same house, I was laying on top of my bed reading. When I went to get into bed, instead of turning off the light THEN getting under the cover like I typically do, I stood up and went to fluff out the sheets. When I threw the sheets back, there was a wolf spider that was the size of a lid from a glass jam jar. Literally tip to tip, this effing thing was about 4 inches before I turned it into goo with a flip-flop. You think I would've slept at all if it got away?

Sorry, but I kill them first, ask questions later. Somehow, I don't think the world will ever run out of insects.

Insects literally rule the world concerning quantity. If they would be as intelligent (lol) as human beings we'd be totally doomed! ; /

In once was on holiday in Italy. We stayed at a nice big house somewhere in the middle of a gigantic vineyard.
One day at the evening I wanted to goto bed, layed aside the blanket and there was a freaking SCORPION in my bed. That totally freaked me out.,...black nasty thingy. urghsss...

Insects never used to bother me when I was younger. One time I even got stung in the neck by two bees but that didn't shake me at all. But when I stayed in Japan for a year I developed an overwhelming fear of wasps and hornets. One evening I was sitting on a landslide barrier made of concrete, about five meters up a steep slope on a side of a road. I was sketching with water colours when this huge, hairy beast of a wasp or hornet was hovering less than a feet away from my face. Seriously the fucker was at least two inches long and more than half an inch thick. I screamed my head off and four-legged down the slope and across the road to dive headlong into a watery ditch between the road and a rice field. Haven't liked wasps since.

Hahaha, now, this is a thread that feels just like good ol' classic Sijun.

My story:

I can pinpoint the exact moment I cracked and developed a phobia for insects--prior to that moment, I used play with insects and raise them (albeit the cuter ones like Lady Bugs, silk worms, caterpillars, crickets, cicadas...etc) as a child.

I was roughly 7 or 8 at the time, and our balcony faced a small area of the woods. One day, while sweeping the balcony floor with my step-mom, a GIGANTIC spider (the size of an adult hand, fully extended--essentially a fucking FACE HUGGER) appeared on the floor. My brilliant step-mom said, "Hold the dust bin, and I'll sweep it onto the dust bin, and you can fling it over the balcony and into the woods."

Yeah, you can imagine the rest. The damn thing was FAST and as soon as it hit the dist bin it shot up to my arm and my shoulder. You can picture a little kid's reaction to that.

We ended up spraying half a can of DDT on that sucker (DDT was still legal back then in Taiwan).

After that incident, I was never the same again.

God chuckled and replied, "Well, you know, I was just kicking back having a brew one afternoon, and it occurred to me that I haven't created an insect that looks like an inverted anus yet. So, I thought, what the hell, you know? Not like I have much to do after those first six days, so inverted anus it is."
