I'm just curious.

For myself, i would say a couple of times a day, mostly checking out the speedpainting thread and get that daily dose of inspiration..lurking through the other threads and occasionaly post. I almost never create new threads though..

i noticed something interesting as well:

"Most users ever online was 185 on Mon Jun 25, 2007 10:24 am "

often there are lots of "guests" online, i wonder how many of these actually have accounts here?

Couple of times a day. There has been times I checked this place every two seconds. Since there isn't really much (relatively) activity here it doesn't make sense to come here so often anymore. I am glad about that tho, there are places you can hardly follow anymore. Not even if the net would be your life ; )

185 in 2007 is new to me. For a long time it was 144 in 2004 if I remember correctly. Maybe Sijun is getting more famous again? I still consider it the #1 real digital art forum.

And yeah, the online status of the members is quite weird actually like right now for example: 3 Registered, and 20 guests. Yo people, register!!! we wanna see your art! Very Happy

Couple of times a day. I think it's common sense for everyone to check the speedpainting thread every now and then (more often when you have posted a picture, at least in my case) as there has been a huge emergence of great artists showing great art lately. I also check the Art Discussion and Off-Topic forums from time to time, but there's not a lot of interesting stuff there.

As a CAorg regular, I like how relaxed, marginal and ... reduced the atmosphere is around here. CAorg is overrun by lots of shit-talk and evangelists who think they poop gold every time they leave one of their omnipotent comments, whereas here at Sijun, people are much cooler and nicer and don't take it all too serious.

On the other hand, I think it's been a little too silent lately. Of course there's the speedpainting thread, but it is mostly about posting a picture with the obligatory ass-pat attached to it. Last month, there was some discussion there, but it was a singular event. I wish that would happen more often. Not just advice, but also some more argumentation beyond your every day "this looks cool, like the boobs!"

Love this place.

"like the boobs!" haha..

yeah i agree with you Jabo, i really liked the discussion as well, too bad it turned into crap though.. hmna.. i need to post more in the speedie.

I also like the simpleness of these forums, ca.org is way too big for me, and a bit too americanized ( Smile ) i would need another 8 hours lost at work just to follow all those new threads and sketchbooks.

It's not the Americanization that bugs me, it's the holy, Christianity-like virtuousness that's hanging over everything there. It's like everybody has a small halo over his head. It's just not real. And if it really is, I don't want to know these guys better.

I'm a secret pervert and swearer by nature, the cold-bloodedness and bourgeois around there is a little too much for me. I rather hang around with party guys who know their priorities but aren't affected by escapism. The only reason for me to visit CAorg is the amount of artists that assemble there. Also, I like the sketchbook section. It's overcrowded tho.

Enough of CA, let's talk about Sijun. I don't have a clue about how to make this place more vivid, or if it's desired by you folks over here. I think the contest was a nice idea, too bad I didn't find the time to participate. This could be happening more often, in a similar manner (no strict rules, just a keyword). What do you guys think?

We went through all that, and I think the way it is, is it's natural state, after all the ups and downs over the years. Basically, people who come now are:

1) Ones with emotional ties to this place, since we've been coming for years. We know each other pretty well, and the ones who didn't belong left long ago. Too bad some of the ones who really made this place great also left.

2) Ones here to just check out the Speedpaint thread (or post in it), as it's still the best one around, even if some of the heavy hitters aren't around anymore.

At this point I don't think it's possible to breath more life back into Sijun. It's like a guy who's mellowed out with age and has learned to listen more than to yap all the time. Kinda reflects how a lot of us had grown and matured a bit since we joined years ago. Except for Shizo, of course. Wink

Well said Luna.

Sijun is a quiet place. It has it's own strong personality and I am really glad about it.
Many other forums are congested with thousands of people, activities, contests and whatnot.
Sijun is just a winsome chillout art caf...

Man, you guys are always talking of the "old sijun days"... I wish I'd know how it was back then. It seems like some of you have kept quite a strong relationship to this place since then...

About the guests: I guess a lot of people just log in when they want to post something... (so do I)

I visit a couple of times daily btw...

I'm the super duper bum commander of this forum! Very Happy

Actually, i just come for the Random Musings. Sometimes i look in Speedpainting topics, but damn.. "the love don't come here anymore." The years passed weeded me out as a digital artist, although i still use some of the learned skills in other areas. Well, count me as a troll of sorts. Troll with SKILLZ.

Still the best painting forums on the net IMO, just relaxed and not an overload of threads to read each day (and they usually have real content). Ohh! and I visit a few times a day.

I'm here at least once a day, unless I'm on vacation or sick (which I am now). I love the simplicity of the place. Lots of forums are too much like the vegas strip - in their appearance and content - their cups runneth over, so to speak.

Sijun is a patio, a cool drink with good advice, discussion and artwork. I wouldn't have (or want) it any other way.

Just my opinion, y'all. Smile

Few times a day, though I usually just check for new threads (and find none)... I'd love to see more activity - Not necessarily as chaotic and offbeat as it used to be, but just more content. Seems everyone's too bound by contracts to post what they work on though.

I agree, we should go without rules for that kind of thing.

i've been gone, wandering the wilds of the internet, lurking on the worst forums (4chan) and the best (the straight dope's message board is a modern salon). Coming back to sijun was like cresting a craggy ridge at the edge of the desert and descending into a sweet, cool forest valley. The trees are mossy and well-aged; tiny denizens (my kin) poke their toadstool-capped heads out from tiny doorways and smile warmly. Civilization and kindness are all around me-- I'm home.

And the only thing I see wrong with sijun is that everyone (myself included) lurks too much and posts.. not enough. We've obviously got the user base. If everyone just posted in every thread they actually read, or even half, this board would be much more active. Who knows why we're all so shy.

Then again, who's going to listen to a nearly eight year veteran telling everyone to post more when he himself doesn't even have 2000 posts yet? Very Happy

I have always been lurking, but im starting to check in a couple times a day now. I just haven't really had a whole lot of time to produce any personal art. Though i'm aching to pump out a few photoshop pieces and will do soon.

Its good to see that all the old faces are still cruising around and havent' been sapped up by other internet fads.
