I noticed a few things about your matte painting; The buildings have no perspective and are not seperate in any way from the back ground. You need to add more atmospheric perspective as well as some sort of physical perspective to seperate the FG and the BG.

As well, the water is very inconsistent, and why would there be waterfalls in an arctic zone? That just makes no sense- matte paintings need to be consistent and believable (thus their purpose), not just 'cool lookin'.

Justin Oaksford> Thanks for the feedback. Smile I agree. ...it was not well thought out as it supposed to be. It wasn't meant to be a matte painting though, just some kinda doodle. I really have no idea what I am looking for sometimes. Still though, it was wayyyy off and no excuse for putting out crap. Embarassed Better luck next time, maybe.

its quite obvious doodle i think...it doestn mean that u dont know perspective or smthing. the place and mood for speedpainting are good enough...well done (but yea, Oaksford has some points there).

Sorry for the harsh crit- but writing it off as a doodle shouldn't be a fallback... I mean when we are still far from pro, sure, but pro's have all that stuff as second nature. It's part of their working process, they don't really have to go out of their way to fix it-

so if you (not YOU you, but you as in whoever is doing art) are truly dedicated to art, then you can't just write stuff off as "a sketch", because if it's wrong on a sketch it means you don't know it well enough.

Xia was very receptive to your critique. I don't think his doodle comment was a fallback, it was a nice way of pointing out that his sketch isn't at all a matte painting.

XIA: Nice enviro might be a little too linear and horizontal on the left side, I would like to see them more like those round buildings in the back.
EOL: dunno what that is but its very interesting, heh
Cicinimo: nice values on this one. Some creative beasts you got there too, good job.

A quick speedie from yesterday, had to salvage it from a PS crash >_<

Actually I was responding to kait, "its quite obvious doodle i think...it doestn mean that u dont know perspective or somthing."

I am glad that he was receptive to it. I probably should have included a name to direct the critique better, my bad.

no images to post, but just wanted to say i love this page!

Samsonsreaper: i found the image absolutely amazing, unfortunately, when i read the theme above it, i removed some of the poetry! haha
P-Rik: this one is spot on. great balance and tones!
rainart: chararainart! it's really great to see you give it a try.
Cicinimo; always humbled by the smartness of your lights and radiosity.
